Students design movable, inexpensive, flood-proof homes for just Rs. 100,000

Students majoring in architecture at the university's Department of Visual Studies presented a concept for a mobile home that is affordable, environmentally friendly, and suitable for usage in flood-affected areas, particularly in villages.

The model homes can apparently be constructed for between Rs. 50,000 and 100,000 using only bamboo, floor mats, dirt, and recycled plastic bottles. Additionally, they won't have any impact on how people live there.

In the meantime, in response to the recent floods that submerged the area beneath 10 feet of water, students raised the walls of the homes up to 15 feet.

Only 4,000 individuals have received temporary tents that are not even secure and do not shield the rescued people from the elements.

Wajiha Siddiqui, a lecturer in the department of Visual Studies, said that Pakistan must be ready for more floods in the coming 30 to 50 years since the country will feel the effects of climate change in the form of natural disasters.
