Realignment of Margalla Road approved by CDA

Construction work on Phase-I of the Margalla Road, which stretches from the GT road to D-12, is near completion since 70 percent of its work has been completed. However, an issue has arisen causing the contractor, FWO to slow down its work.

It was decided that in order to prevent flattening a century-old graveyard, the under-construction road will be shifted towards the southern side, near Shah Allah Ditta. The board approved shifting the road and C-13 and D-12 to preserve the graveyard.

This decision was taken after an extensive discussion between the CDA board and Chairman Amer Ali in the chair. After approving the realignment, he directed the member estate to start the process of compensating all the citizens whose houses will be razed due to the new alignment.

Earlier, CDA had been planning to either construct a tunnel or a flyover to avoid the graveyard. This portion of the road starts from G.T road and ends in D-12. From this point onwards, after the construction of an interchange and a small portion of the 11^th avenue, the road will be linked with Khayaban-i-Iqbal.

یہ فیصلہ سی ڈی اے بورڈ اور چیئرمین عامر علی کی صدارت میں ہونے والے وسیع بحث کے بعد کیا گیا۔ ری الائنمنٹ کی منظوری کے بعد انہوں نے ممبر اسٹیٹ کو ہدایت کی کہ وہ ان تمام شہریوں کو معاوضہ دینے کا عمل شروع کریں جن کے مکانات نئی الائنمنٹ کی وجہ سے گرائے جائیں گے۔
اس سے قبل سی ڈی اے قبرستان سے بچنے کے لیے یا تو سرنگ یا فلائی اوور بنانے کا منصوبہ بنا رہا تھا۔ سڑک کا یہ حصہ G.T روڈ سے شروع ہوتا ہے اور D-12 پر ختم ہوتا ہے۔ اس مقام سے، ایک انٹرچینج اور الیونتھ ایونیو کے ایک چھوٹے سے حصے کی تعمیر کے بعد، سڑک کو خیابانِ اقبال سے جوڑ دیا جائے گا۔
