Rawalpindi Ring Road project has come to a sudden halt

The former prime minister had released Rs.4 billion and assigned the civic agency to acquire the land worth. After the release of the initial sum the project was awarded to the FWO, however, since the inauguration of the project, no agreement has been reached between FWO and the project director.

The FWO which won the contract for the project at a cost of Rs.22.80 billion, also started work on April 16 at the Banth Mor and Thalian Interchange. However, the political turmoil caused the progress to halt. RDA could not utilize the Rs.4 billion released either and the sum is feared to be lapsed by June 30 of the current financial year.

Sources say the RDA officials will request the Punjab Government to allocate the sum in the next financial year’s budget so the work on this project can be started.

سابق وزیراعظم نے 4 ارب روپے جاری کیے تھے اور شہری ایجنسی کو اراضی حاصل کرنے کا کام سونپا تھا۔ ابتدائی رقم کے اجراء کے بعد پراجیکٹ ایف ڈبلیو او کو دے دیا گیا، تاہم، منصوبے کے افتتاح کے بعد سے، ایف ڈبلیو او اور پروجیکٹ ڈائریکٹر کے درمیان کوئی معاہدہ نہیں ہو سکا ہے۔
FWO جس نے 22.80 بلین روپے کی لاگت سے اس منصوبے کا ٹھیکہ جیتا تھا، نے بھی 16 اپریل کو بنتھ موڑ اور ٹھلیاں انٹر چینج پر کام شروع کیا۔ تاہم سیاسی ہنگامہ آرائی کی وجہ سے پیش رفت رک گئی۔ آر ڈی اے جاری کردہ 4 بلین روپے بھی استعمال نہیں کر سکا اور یہ رقم رواں مالی سال کے 30 جون تک ختم ہونے کا خدشہ ہے۔
ذرائع کا کہنا ہے کہ آر ڈی اے حکام پنجاب حکومت سے آئندہ مالی سال کے بجٹ میں رقم مختص کرنے کی درخواست کریں گے تاکہ اس منصوبے پر کام شروع کیا جاسکے۔
