Rawalpindi Ring Road project halted due to a new alignment of the road

A senior official of the Planning and Development department revealed that the annual development programme includes funds for three ongoing projects in Rawalpindi. Rs.50 million has been allocated for the ring road, Rs.50 million for the Kutchery Chowk remodeling project, and Rs.50 million for the Rawal Expressway project.

The contract was awarded to the FWO and the government had released Rs.4 billion for the project however it was reimbursed due to a missing work order required for the project.

During that time, it was revealed that an additional road was planned to be constructed which would only benefit some of the private housing societies. This had increased the total cost of the project by Rs.25 billion.

Despite releasing Rs.50 million for the project this year, it is apparent the government is not yet clear about starting work on the project. For the last 4 years, the government has allocated funds for the project but the construction work is yet to start.

محکمہ پلاننگ اینڈ ڈویلپمنٹ کے ایک سینئر افسر نے انکشاف کیا کہ سالانہ ترقیاتی پروگرام میں راولپنڈی میں جاری تین منصوبوں کے لیے فنڈز شامل ہیں۔ رنگ روڈ کے لیے 50 ملین روپے، کچہری چوک کو دوبارہ بنانے کے منصوبے کے لیے 50 ملین روپے اور راول ایکسپریس وے منصوبے کے لیے 50 ملین روپے مختص کیے گئے ہیں۔
یہ ٹھیکہ ایف ڈبلیو او کو دیا گیا تھا اور حکومت نے اس منصوبے کے لیے 4 ارب روپے جاری کیے تھے تاہم اس منصوبے کے لیے ضروری ورک آرڈر نہ ہونے کی وجہ سے اسے واپس کر دیا گیا۔
اس دوران یہ انکشاف ہوا کہ ایک اضافی سڑک کی تعمیر کا منصوبہ بنایا گیا تھا جس سے صرف کچھ نجی ہاؤسنگ سوسائٹیوں کو فائدہ پہنچے گا۔ اس سے منصوبے کی کل لاگت میں 25 ارب روپے کا اضافہ ہوا۔
اس سال اس منصوبے کے لیے 50 ملین روپے جاری کرنے کے باوجود، یہ ظاہر ہے کہ حکومت ابھی تک اس منصوبے پر کام شروع کرنے کے بارے میں واضح نہیں ہے۔ گزشتہ 4 سال سے حکومت نے اس منصوبے کے لیے فنڈز مختص کیے ہیں لیکن ابھی تک تعمیراتی کام شروع نہیں ہوا۔
