LAHORE: The Punjab government has allocated Rs 2 billion to start building phase-II of the 1,000-bed Lahore General Hospital (LGH) along Ferozepur Road next to the Arfa Karim Tower. (Reported by news source)
The 120 kanal site where the Kot Lakhpat Fruit and Vegetable Market once stood has been proposed for five high-rise designated buildings in the hospital's new mega project.
The project is expected to cost Rs7 billion in total, and completion is targeted for June 2023. The emergency department would be one of the LGH departments that would be relocated to its new infrastructure, under the plan.
One of the city's tallest structures was the Arfa Karim Tower, and the LHG's new project would be built using a similar design. Surgery and medical equipment would be housed in this tower.
A 30-bed unit specifically dedicated to keep critical patients during their two- to three-day recovery phase will be included in the newly proposed tower for the first time.
