PM Imran assures 'strong action' against illegal fishing trawlers in Gwadar

According to the news sources, Prime Minister's statement comes after a weeks-long sit-in and protest by local residents. Following the protests and road closure, the government authorities had to deploy thousands of additional police officers in the region.

Hundreds of local residents, civil society activists, lawyers, journalists including women have been holding massive protests and a sit-in Gwadar for the last 28 days against unnecessary checkpoints, a severe shortage of water and electricity, and threats to livelihoods from illegal fishing.

“I have taken notice of the very legitimate demands of the hardworking fishermen of Gwadar. Will be taking strong action against illegal fishing by trawlers,”

Prime minister Imran Khan said on Twitter. He also assured them to also speak to the chief minister of Balochistan on the issue.

The fishermen in Gwadar have been protesting against the devastating impact of illegal fishing by trawlers along the coast on the livelihoods of local fishermen.

نیوز ذرائع کے مطابق وزیراعظم کا یہ بیان مقامی باشندوں کے کئی ہفتوں سے جاری دھرنے اور احتجاج کے بعد سامنے آیا ہے۔ مظاہروں اور سڑکوں کی بندش کے بعد حکومتی حکام کو علاقے میں ہزاروں اضافی پولیس اہلکار تعینات کرنے پڑے۔
غیر ضروری چوکیوں، پانی اور بجلی کی شدید قلت اور غیر قانونی ماہی گیری سے روزی روٹی کو لاحق خطرات کے خلاف سینکڑوں مقامی باشندے، سول سوسائٹی کے کارکن، وکلاء، صحافی خواتین سمیت گزشتہ 28 دنوں سے گوادر میں زبرد��ت احتجاج اور دھرنا دے رہے ہیں۔
میں نے گوادر کے محنتی ماہی گیروں کے جائز مطالبات کا نوٹس لیا ہے۔ ٹرولرز کے ذریعے غیر قانونی ماہی گیری کے خلاف سخت کارروائی کریں گے،‘‘ وزیراعظم نے ٹوئٹر پر کہا۔ انہوں نے انہیں اس معاملے پر وزیراعلیٰ بلوچستان سے بھی بات کرنے کی یقین دہانی کرائی۔
گوادر کے ماہی گیر ساحل کے ساتھ ٹرالروں کی غیر قانونی ماہی گیری سے مقامی ماہی گیروں کے ذریعہ معاش پر تباہ کن اثرات کے خلاف سراپا احتجاج ہیں۔
