Pakistan investing millions of dollars in ecosystem restoration

Pakistan is making investments worth millions of dollars in climate resilience initiatives to protect socio-economic sectors, particularly water, energy, and agriculture from fallouts of climate change that would greatly help mitigate the country’s overall climate vulnerability and protect the lives and livelihoods of the people.

According to the details shared by the climate change ministry, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Climate Change Malik Amin Aslam apprised the participants of the UN Climate Summit COP26 in Glasgow that their main focus is to invest in institutional strengthening and capacity building, modernization of the observation infrastructure; data management, and forecasting systems.

“We are also focusing on legal policy and institutional strengthening; infrastructure for resilience and the project management, monitoring, and implementation support of National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA),” he said.

He said “The projects currently underway aim at disaster resilience and ecosystem restoration initiatives through more reliable and timely weather forecasting services. It is being implemented through a National Disaster Risk Management Fund (NDRMF), a government-owned company established under Section 42 of the Companies Act 2017 and managed by the climate change ministry.”

Malik Amin Aslam said Pakistan is applying nature-based solutions to bolster climate change adaptation and mitigation objectives while addressing issues like livelihoods and reducing damages from natural disasters.

Referring to the coronavirus pandemic he said Pakistan ably utilized the situation to ensure economic sustenance of people and converting the challenge into an opportunity through now is the world-acclaimed Green Stimulus initiative, which has been approved by Prime Minister Imran Khan as part of the efforts for ensuring economic security after the emergence of the pandemic.

وزارت موسمیاتی تبدیلی کی طرف سے شیئر کی گئی تفصیلات کے مطابق، وزیر اعظم کے معاون خصوصی برائے موسمیاتی تبدیلی ملک امین اسلم نے گلاسگو میں اقوام متحدہ کے موسمیاتی سربراہی اجلاس سی اوپی-26 کے شرکاء کو آگاہ کیا کہ ان کی بنیادی توجہ ادارہ جاتی مضبوطی اور صلاحیت کی تعمیر، جدید کاری میں سرمایہ کاری کرنا ہے۔ مشاہدے کا بنیادی ڈھانچہ؛ ڈیٹا مینجمنٹ، اور پیشن گوئی کے نظام.

انہوں نے کہا کہ "اس وقت جاری منصوبوں کا مقصد زیادہ قابل اعتماد اور بروقت موسم کی پیشن گوئی کی خدمات کے ذریعے آفات سے نمٹنے اور ماحولیاتی نظام کی بحالی کے اقدامات ہیں۔ اسے نیشنل ڈیزاسٹر رسک مینجمنٹ فنڈ (NDRMF) کے ذریعے لاگو کیا جا رہا ہے، جو کہ کمپنیز ایکٹ 2017 کے سیکشن 42 کے تحت قائم کی گئی اور وزارت موسمیاتی تبدیلی کے زیر انتظام حکومت کی ملکیت والی کمپنی ہے۔

ملک امین اسلم نے کہا کہ پاکستان موسمیاتی تبدیلیوں کی موافقت اور تخفیف کے مقاصد کو تقویت دینے کے لیے فطرت پر مبنی حل کا استعمال کر رہا ہے جب کہ معاش اور قدرتی آفات سے ہونے والے نقصانات کو کم کرنے جیسے مسائل کو حل کیا جا رہا ہے۔

کورونا وائرس وبائی امراض کا حوالہ دیتے ہوئے انہوں نے کہا کہ پاکستان نے لوگوں کی معاشی بقا کو یقینی بنانے کے لیے صورتحال کا بخوبی استعمال کیا اور چیلنج کو موقع میں تبدیل کرنا عالمی سطح پر سراہا جانے والا گرین اسٹیمولس اقدام ہے، جس کی منظوری وزیراعظم عمران خان نے کوششوں کے حصے کے طور پر دی ہے۔ وبائی امراض کے ظہور کے بعد معاشی تحفظ کو یقینی بنانے کے لیے۔
