“Pakistan could receive $2 billion from the International Monetary Fund.”, PM Shehbaz Sharif

"Miftah Ismail relayed a message in the morning saying that we will hopefully be receiving not $1bn from the IMF, but $2bn. I replied by saying that our real goal is [achieving] self-reliance. Easier said than done," the premier concluded. He was addressing the ‘Turnaround Pakistan’ conference which had been organized by the Ministry of Planning and Development.

The premier said that the cooperation of all the quarters was required for any plausible progress to be made within the country. Added to that, he also stressed that self-reliance was also required for the country since it will guarantee political and economic independence for the country.

The prime minister’s comments came a few hours after the Miftah Ismail had announced ta the country will receive both economic and financial targets for the seventh and eighth reviews of its IMF bailout programme.

"مفتاح اسماعیل نے صبح ایک پیغام جاری کیا جس میں کہا گیا کہ امید ہے کہ ہمیں آئی ایم ایف سے 1 بلین ڈالر نہیں بلکہ 2 بلین ڈالر ملیں گے۔ میں نے یہ کہہ کر جواب دیا کہ ہمارا اصل مقصد خود انحصاری ہے۔ کام کرنے سے کہیں زیادہ آسان کہا،" وزیر اعظم نے اختتام کیا۔ وہ ’’ٹرناراؤنڈ پاکستان‘‘ کانفرنس سے خطاب کر رہے تھے جس کا اہتمام وزارت منصوبہ بندی و ترقیات نے کیا تھا۔
وزیراعظم نے کہا کہ ملک کے اندر کسی بھی قابل عمل پیش رفت کے لیے تمام حلقوں کا تعاون درکار ہے۔ اس کے علاوہ، انہوں نے اس بات پر بھی زور دیا کہ ملک کے لیے خود انحصاری بھی ضروری ہے کیونکہ یہ ملک کے لیے سیاسی اور اقتصادی آزادی کی ضمانت دے گا۔
وزیر اعظم کے تبصرے مفتاح اسماعیل کے اعلان کے چند گھنٹے بعد سامنے آئے ہیں کہ ملک کو اپنے آئی ایم ایف بیل آؤٹ پروگرام کے ساتویں اور آٹھویں جائزے کے لیے اقتصادی اور مالی دونوں اہداف حاصل ہوں گے۔
