Pakistan & Australia Agree To Relax Trade Rules

This was decided during a meeting between Minister for National Food Security and Research Syed Fakhar Imam and Australian Trade Commissioner in Pakistan John Cavanaghon in Islamabad.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Imam said Pakistan has limited exports to Australia in terms of mangoes and citrus fruits due to strict regulations of the National Plant Protection Organisation of Australia.

The export of mangoes to Australia has increased from two tonnes in 2013 to 75 tonnes in 2021, however with little focus, the level of this export can be enhanced manifold, he added.

With respect to citrus fruits, the two countries agreed to work together in eradicating the citrus canker disease in order to increase citrus export to Australia.

The minister informed the Australian trade commissioner that the export of citrus fruit from Pakistan has increased from 350,000 tonnes to approximately 460,000 tonnes in just one year.

Moreover, the export of mangoes has increased from 110,000 tonnes to 142,000 tonnes in the last year. Pakistan has huge export potential in terms of vegetables and fruits such as mango, citrus fruits, and apple cherries.

The Australian trade commissioner informed the federal minister that Australia will provide technical agricultural training to Pakistan to uplift the quality of human resources.

Mr. Cavanaghon said that the up-gradation of technology and human resource is the key to revolutionizing the agriculture sector.

He said that transfer of agro-technology through private sector coordination of both countries can take the agro-economy of Pakistan forward.

He also agreed to enhance agricultural research through the transfer of quality human resources to research institutes of the country.

اسلام آباد: پاکستان اور آسٹریلیا نے پھلوں اور زرعی مصنوعات کی درآمد اور برآمد کے لیے تجارتی ضوابط میں نرمی کا جائزہ لینے اور کام کرنے پر اتفاق کیا۔

اس بات کا فیصلہ وزیر برائے نیشنل فوڈ سیکیورٹی اینڈ ریسرچ سید فخر امام اور پاکستان میں آسٹریلیا کے تجارتی کمشنر جان کیواناگھون کے درمیان اسلام آباد میں ملاقات کے دوران کیا گیا۔

اس موقع پر خطاب کرتے ہوئے مسٹر امام نے کہا کہ آسٹریلیا کی نیشنل پلانٹ پروٹیکشن آرگنائزیشن کے سخت ضابطوں کی وجہ سے پاکستان کی آسٹریلیا کو آم اور کھٹی پھلوں کی برآمدات محدود ہیں۔

انہوں نے مزید کہا کہ آسٹریلیا کو آم کی برآمد 2013 میں دو ٹن سے بڑھ کر 2021 میں 75 ٹن ہو گئی ہے، تاہم تھوڑی توجہ کے ساتھ اس برآمد کی سطح کو کئی گنا بڑھایا جا سکتا ہے۔

لیموں کے پھلوں کے حوالے سے، دونوں ممالک نے آسٹریلیا کو لیموں کی برآمد کو بڑھانے کے لیے لیموں کی ناسور کی بیماری کے خاتمے کے لیے مل کر کام کرنے پر اتفاق کیا۔

وزیر نے آسٹریلوی تجارتی کمشنر کو بتایا کہ صرف ایک سال میں پاکستان سے لیموں کی برآمدات 350,000 ٹن سے بڑھ کر تقریباً 460,000 ٹن تک پہنچ گئی ہے۔

مزید یہ کہ آم کی برآمد گزشتہ سال 110,000 ٹن سے بڑھ کر 142,000 ٹن تک پہنچ گئی ہے۔ پاکستان میں سبزیوں اور پھلوں جیسے آم، کھٹی پھل اور سیب کی چیری کی برآمدات کی بڑی صلاحیت ہے۔

آسٹریلوی تجارتی کمشنر نے وفاقی وزیر کو بتایا کہ آسٹریلیا انسانی وسائل کے معیار کو بلند کرنے کے لیے پاکستان کو تکنیکی زرعی تربیت فراہم کرے گا۔
مسٹر کاوناگون نے کہا کہ ٹیکنالوجی اور انسانی وسائل کی اپ گریڈیشن زراعت کے شعبے میں انقلاب لانے کی کلید ہے۔

انہوں نے کہا کہ دونوں ممالک کے نجی شعبے کے تعاون سے زرعی ٹیکنالوجی کی منتقلی پاکستان کی زرعی معیشت کو آگے لے جا سکتی ہے۔

انہوں نے ملک کے تحقیقی اداروں کو معیاری انسانی وسائل کی منتقلی کے ذریعے زرعی تحقیق کو بڑھانے پر بھی اتفاق کیا۔
