Newly-planted trees uprooted from Rashid Minhas Road

After Karachi experienced the hottest day in April, when the mercury rose to 43.6 degrees Celsius, some newly planted trees were deracinated from Rashid Minhas Road’s green belt in front of a shopping mall.

The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation’s (KMC) Parks and Horticulture Department (P&HD) had planted saplings of the Tabebuia tree, to make them the shade providers along Rashid Minhas Road, in the scorching heat of summer.

The corporation’s park department had fastened its campaign to plant trees along with five major systematic fares of the city in February. The target is to achieve plantation of more than 25,000 saplings, and also to take care of them. 

under the campaign, the KMC has planned to plant different traditional, environment–friendly, and seasonal trees to make Karachi green. Saplings of the Tabebuia tree were planted four days ago with the assistance of the private sector, as well as non-governmental organizations.

The Director-General (DG) Parks Taha Saleem tweeted, “Alas! I feel disgusted to report the theft of Tabebuia planted three days ago on Rashid Minhas Road near Lucky One Mall and UBL Sports Complex. An FIR is being lodged, and we would request citizens living nearby to watch this place as now we are again planting there from tomorrow.”

He further tweeted and sought assistance from the Lucky One Mall management in the investigation process. He also shared that the patch of the green belt in front of the mall was being owned by the mall’s management, and they had a security establishment there. “With CCTV footage it will become easy to identify the culprits.”

کارپوریشن کے پارک محکمہ نے فروری میں شہر کے پانچ بڑے منظم کرایوں کے ساتھ درخت لگانے کی اپنی مہم کو تیز کردیا تھا۔ 25000 سے زیادہ پودوں کے پودے لگانا اور ان کی دیکھ بھال کرنا بھی ہدف ہے۔

اس مہم کے تحت ، کے ایم سی نے کراچی کو سبز رنگ بنانے کے لئے مختلف روایتی ، ماحول دوست اور موسمی درخت لگانے کا منصوبہ بنایا ہے۔ تابیبیہ کے درخت کے پودے چار دن قبل نجی شعبے کے ساتھ ساتھ غیر سرکاری تنظیموں کے تعاون سے لگائے گئے تھے۔

ڈائریکٹر جنرل (ڈی جی) پارکس طحہ سلیم نے ٹویٹ کیا ، ”افسوس! مجھے راکی منہاس روڈ پر لکی ون مال اور یو بی ایل اسپورٹس کمپلیکس کے قریب تین دن قبل لگائی گئی تبیبیہ کی چوری کی اطلاع ملنے پر مجھے ناگوار محسوس ہوتا ہے۔ ایف آئی آر درج کی جارہی ہے ، اور ہم آس پاس کے شہریوں سے درخواست کریں گے کہ وہ اس جگہ کو دیکھیں کیونکہ اب ہم کل سے وہاں پودے لگارہے ہیں۔

انہوں نے مزید ٹویٹ کیا اور تحقیقات کے عمل میں لکی ون مال انتظامیہ سے مدد مانگی۔ انہوں نے یہ بھی بتایا کہ مال کے سامنے گرین بیلٹ کا پیچ مال کی انتظامیہ کی ملکیت ہے ، اور وہاں ان کا سیکیورٹی اسٹیبلشمنٹ ہے۔ "سی سی ٹی وی فوٹیج سے مجرموں کی شناخت آسان ہوجائے گی۔"
