Nepra increases power tariff by Rs1.3771 per unit

The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) has increased the power tariff by Rs1.3771 per unit and allowed XWDiscos to collect additional Rs 21 billion from power consumers in their electricity bills of September 2021.

The Authority has approved positive fuel charges adjustments (FCA) of Rs.1.3771/kWh for the month of July 2021, said spokesman NEPRA. On September 1, 2021, NPERA held a public hearing on the petition of the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) for an increase in power tariff under the monthly fuel charges adjustment (FCA) for the month of July 2021.

CPPA-G requested a positive FCA of Rs.1.4685/kWh, having the impact of Rs.22.3 billion, said the spokesman. He said that that the FCA of July 2021 shall be charged in the billing month of September 2021 to all consumer categories of XWDISCOs, except lifeline consumers. This FCA would remain applicable only for one month. This FCA is not applicable to KE consumers.

During the hearing, chairman NEPRA Tauseef H. Farooqi had said, “For removing our reservations regarding running the power plants, concrete actions have not been taken so far. And they are asking for adjustment for the closed power plants. We will not give adjustment for the closed plants.” 

The increase will enable DISCOs to collect Rs21 billion from power consumers. In its petition, Central Power Purchasing Agency-Guaranteed (CPPA-G) had sought an increase of Rs1.4685 per unit in tariffs of distribution companies (Discos) for July 2021 under the monthly FCA mechanism.

اس اضافے سے ڈسکو بجلی صارفین سے 21 ارب روپے وصول کر سکیں گے۔ اپنی درخواست میں ، سینٹرل پاور پرچیزنگ ایجنسی گارنٹیڈ (سی پی پی اے-جی) نے ماہانہ ایف سی اے میکانزم کے تحت جولائی 2021 کے لیے ڈسٹری بیوشن کمپنیوں (ڈسکوز) کے ٹیرف میں 1485 روپے فی یونٹ اضافے کا مطالبہ کیا تھا۔
