Murree to be made ‘no-smoking’ zone

According to the news sources, the official said this while chairing a District Tobacco Control Implementation Committee meeting, in which he insisted that immediate steps be taken to ensure that Murree becomes and remains free from tobacco smoke.

While addressing the meeting DC said, Murree is a popular hill station that receives visitors from all over the country, hence it is imperative for a ‘Smoke-Free Murree’ to set an example that will eventually reflect a ‘Smoke-Free Pakistan’

He said that all other tehsils of Rawalpindi would also follow suit, thereby making the district the first one in Pakistan to be free from tobacco smoke. Under the ‘Tobacco Smoke-Free Cities of Pakistan’ project, orders have been delivered to install ‘No Smoking’ signboards outside schools and colleges in Rawalpindi.

The same will be implemented in all government offices, healthcare centers, hotels, restaurants, cafeterias, dhabas, courts, conference halls, public transport vehicles, stadiums, recreational places, etc. Anyone found violating the directives will face legal proceedings.

خبر رساں ذرائع کے مطابق عہدیدار نے یہ بات ڈسٹرکٹ ٹوبیکو کنٹرول امپلیمینٹیشن کمیٹی کے اجلاس کی صدارت کرتے ہوئے کہی، جس میں انہوں نے زور دیا کہ مری کو تمباکو نوشی سے پاک بنانے کے لیے فوری اقدامات کیے جائیں۔
اجلاس سے خطاب کرتے ہوئے ڈی سی نے کہا کہ مری ایک مشہور ہل سٹیشن ہے جس پر ملک بھر سے سیاح آتے ہیں، اس لیے ضروری ہے کہ ’سموک فری مری‘ کے لیے ایک ایسی مثال قائم کی جائے جو بالآخر ’سموک فری پاکستان‘ کی عکاسی کرے۔
انہوں نے کہا کہ راولپنڈی کی دیگر تمام تحصیلیں بھی اس کی پیروی کریں گی، اس طرح یہ ضلع پاکستان کا پہلا تمباکو نوشی سے پاک ہو گا۔ پاکستان کے تمباکو نوشی سے پاک شہر منصوبے کے تحت راولپنڈی میں سکولوں اور کالجوں کے باہر ’سگریٹ نوشی منع ہے‘ کے سائن بورڈز لگانے کے احکامات جاری کر دیے گئے ہیں۔
اسے تمام سرکاری دفاتر، صحت کی دیکھ بھال کے مراکز، ہوٹلوں، ریستورانوں، کیفے ٹیریاز، ڈھابوں، عدالتوں، کانفرنس ہالز، پبلک ٹرانسپورٹ گاڑیوں، اسٹیڈیم، تفریحی مقامات وغیرہ پر لاگو کیا جائے گا۔ اگر کوئی بھی ان ہدایات کی خلاف ورزی کرتا ہوا پایا گیا تو اس کے خلاف قانونی کارروائی کی جائے گی۔
