“Lyari Expressway project affectees must be resettled within 8 weeks”, SHC

The project which was estimated to be completed in 2003 costing only Rs.3 billion will now cost a whopping amount of Rs.23 billion after being launched in 2018. This project will include four interchanges and twenty bridges and is expected to ease the traffic congestion within the city.

An SHC bench was hearing a plea seeking contempt proceedings against the Lyari Expressway Resettlement Project (LERP) director since they to provide alternate plots for the people. At the outset of the hearing, the court inquired about the progress made within the case, to which they informed that milestones were being achieved, and around eight weeks’ time was required to fully resolve the matter.

2 months’ time was granted to the administration by the government, for resettling over 24,000 families since around 15,000 houses have been demolished along the Lyari River.

سندھ ہائی کورٹ کا ایک بنچ لیاری ایکسپریس وے ری سیٹلمنٹ پروجیکٹ (ایل ای آر پی) کے ڈائریکٹر کے خلاف توہین عدالت کی کارروائی کی درخواست کی سماعت کر رہا تھا کیونکہ وہ لوگوں کو متبادل پلاٹ فراہم کر رہے تھے۔ سماعت کے آغاز پر، عدالت نے کیس میں ہونے والی پیش رفت کے بارے میں استفسار کیا، جس پر انہوں نے بتایا کہ سنگ میل عبور کیے جا رہے ہیں، اور معاملے کو مکمل طور پر حل کرنے کے لیے تقریباً آٹھ ہفتے کا وقت درکار ہے۔
حکومت کی جانب سے انتظامیہ کو 2 ماہ کا وقت دیا گیا تھا، 24 ہزار سے زائد خاندانوں کو آباد کرنے کے لیے لیاری ندی کے کنارے تقریباً 15 ہزار مکانات منہدم ہو چکے ہیں۔
