Leh Expressway project to start this year on priority: Sheikh Rashid

“Leh Expressway is very important for the residents of the city. The sitting government is eager to resolve public issues and ‘Leh Expressway’ is on top of the priority list. I know the public is facing several problems and I will try my level best to resolve them,” he made the remarks in a conversation with media personnel during his visit to Nullah Leh to monitor the situation.

“The Leh Expressway is aimed at treating the city’s sewerage and providing an alternate road connecting Rawalpindi with Islamabad, which will help clean up the traffic mess on Murree Road, Peshawar Road and Airport Road,” he said.

The interior minister also said the army and other local authorities were present in the federal capital to deal with the situation. "The army is alert, the Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa) is alert … the whole administration is on duty," he said.

Commissioner Rawalpindi Division Syed Gulzar Hussain Shah, Deputy Commissioner (DC), City Police Officer and several other high ranking officers were also along with Interior Minister on the occasion. Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) Managing Director Raja Shaukat Mehmood briefed the interior minister about water level in Nullah Leh.

“لیہ ایکسپریس وے شہر کے باسیوں کے لئے بہت اہم ہے۔ موجودہ حکومت عوامی مسائل کے حل کے لئے بے چین ہے اور ’لیہ ایکسپریس وے‘ ترجیحی فہرست میں سرفہرست ہے۔ میں جانتا ہوں کہ عوام کو بہت ساری پریشانیوں کا سامنا ہے اور ان کے حل کے لئے میں اپنی پوری کوشش کروں گا۔

انہوں نے کہا ، "لیہ ایکسپریس وے کا مقصد شہر کے سیوریج کا علاج کرنا اور راولپنڈی کو اسلام آباد سے ملانے والی ایک متبادل سڑک کی فراہمی ہے ، جس سے مری روڈ ، پشاور روڈ اور ایئرپورٹ روڈ پر ٹریفک کی گندگی کو صاف کرنے میں مدد ملے گی۔"

وزیر داخلہ نے یہ بھی کہا کہ فوج اور دیگر مقامی حکام اس صورتحال سے نمٹنے کے لئے وفاقی دارالحکومت میں موجود تھے۔ انہوں نے کہا ، "فوج چوکنا ہے ، واٹر اینڈ سینی ٹیشن ایجنسی (واسا) چوکنا ہے… پوری انتظامیہ ڈیوٹی پر ہے۔"

اس موقع پر وزیر داخلہ کے ہمراہ کمشنر راولپنڈی ڈویژن سید گلزار حسین شاہ ، ڈپٹی کمشنر (ڈی سی) ، سٹی پولیس آفیسر اور متعدد اعلی اعلی عہدیدار بھی موجود تھے۔ واٹر اینڈ سینی ٹیشن ایجنسی (واسا) کے منیجنگ ڈائریکٹر راجہ شوکت محمود نے وزیر داخلہ کو نلہ لیہ میں پانی کی سطح کے بارے میں آگاہ کیا۔\
