LDA to turn Shaukat Ali Road into a signal-free corridor

LDA DG will be giving a complete briefing on this mega project of 15-kilometer road to Chief Minister Usman Buzdar in a few days.

This was revealed by LDA’s newly-appointed Chief Engineer Mazhar Khan while talking to selected media persons in his office here on Saturday. He said the main purpose of this plan was to connect two main arteries of the city Multan Road and Ferozpur Road.

As per the plan, the remodeling will start from Kharak Stop on Multan Road and will come to the roundabout of Karim Block Market. From there the road will turn towards Punjab University and an underpass or a flyover will be constructed at Karim Block Market’s signal at Wahdat Road junction, he said.

He added that at Jinnah Hospital, a single side underpass or a flyover will be constructed and then a single side underpass will be constructed on Shauq Chowk.

Mazhar Khan said that a double flyover will be constructed at Akbar Chowk and then a single side underpass will be constructed at Model Town Link Road. He said six twin U-turns will also be made on the road to make it signal-free.

He said no land acquisition was needed for the remodeling plan and the LDA will also construct footpaths.

The LDA chief engineer replying to a question said more than 14 overhead pedestrian bridges will also be constructed on the road out of which half will have a ramp so that the cyclists and motorcyclists can cross the road.

He said the remodeling of this important segment of the city will reduce travel time from one and a half hours to 10 to 15 min only. This will also reduce the fuel cost of the motorists besides improving the traffic flow on this segment of the road.

Talking about other ongoing mega development projects in the city, he said work was already started at the Gulab Devi underpass and Shahkam Chowk underpass. He said both the projects will be completed in their stipulated time.

اس بات کا انکشاف ایل ڈی اے کے نومنتخب چیف انجینئر مظہر خان نے ہفتہ کے روز اپنے دفتر میں منتخب میڈیا افراد سے گفتگو کرتے ہوئے کیا۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ اس منصوبے کا بنیادی مقصد شہر کی دو اہم شریانوں کو ملتان روڈ اور فیروز پور روڈ سے جوڑنا تھا۔
منصوبے کے مطابق ، از سر نو تیار کرنا ملتان روڈ پر کھڑک اسٹاپ سے شروع ہوگا اور کریم بلاک مارکیٹ کے چکر میں آئے گا۔ انہوں نے بتایا کہ وہاں سے سڑک کا رخ پنجاب یونیورسٹی کی طرف ہوگا اور وحدت روڈ موڑ پر کریم بلاک مارکیٹ کے سگنل پر انڈر پاس یا فلائی اوور تعمیر کیا جائے گا۔
انہوں نے مزید کہا کہ جناح اسپتال میں سنگل سائیڈ انڈر پاس یا فلائی اوور تعمیر کیا جائے گا اور اس کے بعد شوق چوک پر سنگل سائیڈ انڈر پاس تعمیر کیا جائے گا۔
مظہر خان نے بتایا کہ اکبر چوک پر ڈبل فلائی اوور تعمیر کیا جائے گا اور اس کے بعد ماڈل ٹاؤن لنک روڈ پر سنگل سائیڈ انڈر پاس تعمیر کیا جائے گا۔ انہوں نے بتایا کہ سڑک پر چھ جڑواں یو ٹرنز بھی بنائے جائیں گے تاکہ اسے سگنل فری بنایا جاسکے۔
انہوں نے کہا کہ دوبارہ تعمیر منصوبے کے لئے کسی بھی اراضی کے حصول کی ضرورت نہیں ہے اور ایل ڈی اے بھی فٹ پاتھ تعمیر کرے گا۔
ایل ڈی اے کے چیف انجینئر نے ایک سوال کے جواب میں کہا کہ سڑک پر 14 سے زائد اوورہیڈ پیدل چلنے والے پُل بھی تعمیر کیے جائیں گے جن میں سے آدھے ریمپ لگے گا تاکہ سائیکل سوار اور موٹرسائیکل سوار سڑک عبور کرسکیں۔
انہوں نے کہا کہ شہر کے اس اہم حصے کی دوبارہ تشکیل سے سفر کا وقت ڈیڑھ گھنٹے سے کم ہو کر صرف 10 سے 15 منٹ تک ہوگا۔ اس سے سڑک کے اس حصے میں ٹریفک کی روانی کو بہتر بنانے کے علاوہ موٹر سواروں کی ایندھن کی لاگت میں بھی کمی آئے گی۔
شہر میں جاری میگا ڈویلپمنٹ منصوبوں کے بارے میں بات کرتے ہوئے انہوں نے کہا کہ گلاب دیوی انڈر پاس اور شاہکم چوک انڈر پاس میں کام پہلے ہی شروع کیا گیا تھا۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ دونوں منصوبے اپنے مقررہ وقت میں مکمل ہوں گے۔
