Lahore-Gujranwala motorway project to develop local industry of Gujranwala

The Lahore-Gujranwala motorway will not only connect the local industrial zone to the rest of the industrial cities of the country with highways and other routes but will also provide transport facilities to the local population, President of the Gujranwala Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) Umar Ashraf Mughal told APP in an exclusive interview.

He said the motorway will connect Gujranwala and Sialkot - the two biggest industrial cities of the country – and would mutually benefit the industrial units at the local level.

The project is being executed on a public-private partnership (PPP) model as the Gujranwala Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) also provided funds whereas the government has also provided support for land acquisition. “Gujranwala has huge potential for light and heavy engineering goods at local level which “we can use to increase domestic exports.”

Adviser to Prime Minister on Commerce and Investment, Abdul Razak Dawood had appreciated the performance of Gujranwala industries and said that Gujranwala could gain a prominent position in the export of engineering goods in coming years through increasing the productive manufacturing in engineering, and another automobile good.

“'Made in Pakistan' is the government's top priority trade policy which aims to introduce Pakistan's traditional and non-traditional export sectors and local products in the international trade market,” he added.

The adviser said that “we have decided to move towards import substitution which will increase our exports and create more industries in the country.”

اسلام آباد: اہم تجارتی نمائندے کے مطابق ، لاہور-گوجرانوالہ موٹروے منصوبہ گوجرانوالہ کی مقامی صنعت کی ترقی میں اہم کردار ادا کرے گا۔ گوجرانوالہ چیمبر آف کامرس اینڈ انڈسٹری کے صدر لاہور گوجرانوالہ موٹروے نہ صرف مقامی صنعتی زون کو ملک کے باقی صنعتی شہروں سے شاہراہوں اور دیگر راستوں سے جوڑیں گے بلکہ مقامی آبادی کو ٹرانسپورٹ کی سہولیات بھی فراہم کریں گے۔ جی سی سی آئی) عمر اشرف مغل نے اے پی پی کو خصوصی انٹرویو میں بتایا۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ موٹروے ملک کے دو بڑے صنعتی شہروں گوجرانوالہ اور سیالکوٹ کو ملائے گی اور مقامی سطح پر صنعتی یونٹس کو باہمی فائدہ پہنچائے گی۔ یہ منصوبہ پبلک پرائیویٹ پارٹنرشپ (پی پی پی) ماڈل پر چلایا جا رہا ہے کیونکہ گوجرانوالہ چیمبر آف کامرس اینڈ انڈسٹری (جی سی سی آئی) نے فنڈز بھی فراہم کیے ہیں جبکہ حکومت نے زمین کے حصول کے لیے بھی مدد فراہم کی ہے۔ "گوجرانوالہ میں مقامی سطح پر ہلکے اور بھاری انجینئرنگ سامان کی بہت زیادہ صلاحیت ہے جسے ہم ملکی برآمدات بڑھانے کے لیے استعمال کر سکتے ہیں۔" وزیر اعظم کے مشیر برائے تجارت اور سرمایہ کاری عبدالرزاق داؤد نے گوجرانوالہ کی صنعتوں کی کارکردگی کو سراہا اور کہا کہ گوجرانوالہ انجینئرنگ میں پیداواری مینوفیکچرنگ میں اضافہ کے ذریعے آنے والے سالوں میں انجینئرنگ سامان کی برآمد میں نمایاں مقام حاصل کر سکتا ہے انہوں نے مزید کہا کہ 'میڈ ان پاکستان' حکومت کی اولین ترجیحی تجارتی پالیسی ہے جس کا مقصد بین الاقوامی تجارتی منڈی میں پاکستان کے روایتی اور غیر روایتی برآمدی شعبوں اور مقامی مصنوعات کو متعارف کرانا ہے۔ مشیر نے کہا کہ "ہم نے درآمدی متبادل کی طرف بڑھنے کا فیصلہ کیا ہے جس سے ہماری برآمدات میں اضافہ ہوگا اور ملک میں مزید صنعتیں پیدا ہوں گی۔"
