KU has Launched its Tree Plantation Drive

The drive is given the name of “Tree Plantation and Environmental Protection” and it is initiated by Karachi University in collaboration with a non-government organization named Dua Foundation.

340 saplings from 24 different species, some fruits, and various other plants will be supplied by the foundation for the Centre for Plant Conservation, Botanic Garden, Karachi University (KU). The NGO has also given its commitment to lifting and upgrading the botanic garden of the university.

Vice-Chancellor of KU, Professor Dr. Khalid Mahmood Iraqi said that the plantation of the tree is a charitable act and trees are an important asset to our environment. He further said that we need to plant as many trees as possible to reach the fulfillment of our dream of seeing a healthy, clean, and green Karachi.

“We should not rely on the governments for everything. Tree plantation is a social responsibility, and this country belongs to all of us and we all have to play our role to make it green.” He also shared that varsity is launching plantation drives on regular basis. 

They take great care of plants and all available resources are brought into utilization for the protection of these trees. Mr. Iraqi gave stress to this statement that every individual should plant at least one sapling and take responsibility for its care, and protection. 

“The KU’s Botanic Garden is spread over 35 acres of land and we are hopeful that with our serious efforts and modern drip irrigation system we will be able to transform into a unique botanic garden in the country to earn global recognition,” said General Secretary of Dua Foundation.

مرکز برائے پلانٹ کنزرویشن ، بوٹینک گارڈن ، کراچی یونیورسٹی (کے یو) کے فاؤنڈیشن کے ذریعہ 24 مختلف پرجاتیوں ، کچھ پھلوں اور مختلف پودوں کے 340 پودوں کی فراہمی کی جائے گی۔ این جی او نے یونیورسٹی کے نباتاتی باغ کو اٹھانے اور اپ گریڈ کرنے کا بھی عہد کیا ہے۔

کے یو کے وائس چانسلر پروفیسر ڈاکٹر خالد محمود عراقی نے کہا کہ درخت لگانا ایک خیراتی کام ہے اور درخت ہمارے ماحول کا ایک اہم اثاثہ ہیں۔ انہوں نے مزید کہا کہ ہمیں صحت مند ، صاف ستھرا ، اور سبز کراچی دیکھنے کے اپنے خواب کو پورا کرنے کے لئے زیادہ سے زیادہ درخت لگانے کی ضرورت ہے۔

ہمیں ہر چیز کے لئے حکومتوں پر بھروسہ نہیں کرنا چاہئے۔ درخت لگانا ایک معاشرتی ذمہ داری ہے ، اور یہ ملک ہم سب کا ہے اور اسے سبز بنانے کے لئے ہم سب کو اپنا کردار ادا کرنا ہوگا۔ انہوں نے یہ بھی بتایا کہ یونیورسٹی باقاعدگی سے شجرکاری مہم چلارہی ہے۔
