KMC’s master plan to restore Shahrah-e-Faisal nearing finalization

“Tourists and guests coming to Karachi from abroad pass through Sharea Faisal, so the decoration of this artery should be of world-class so that a good and pleasant impression of the citizens of Karachi is established,” Karachi Administrator Laeeq Ahmed.

Addressing a meeting on the beautification of Sharea Faisal, he said that after the construction of cities around the world, the process of decorating them is under way, and the concept of smart cities is now gaining popularity in the developed world.

He also said that many cities of the world are already equipped with highly developed and modern facilities, in imitation of which the managements of other metropolitan cities have also made full use of modern methods and technology.

Ahmed said that traditional signboards on roads, footpaths and green belts have been beautified, while new styles are being adopted across the world through modern electronic and digital technology.

He said that the creative element should be kept in view in the beautification of Karachi, and cooperation should be sought from various institutions in this regard.

He also said roads and other arteries in major and commercial cities of the world are also being used to generate revenue, but we have to highlight the commercial aspect as well as the importance of Karachi in its cultural background. “Institutions working in Karachi and citizens must also play their part in this regard.”

The administrator said that a master plan for the city’s beautification has also been prepared keeping in view the needs of different areas. “The objectives of beautification will be achieved only if the available infrastructure is kept in working condition, for which the field teams of the works department are working.”

He said Sharea Faisal should be renovated in such a way that these important and busy arteries emerge in a new form. “Pavements should be open for pedestrians, and if there are any obstructions or encroachments anywhere, they must be removed immediately.”

شاہراہ فیصل کی خوبصورتی سے متعلق اجلاس سے خطاب کرتے ہوئے انہوں نے کہا کہ دنیا بھر کے شہروں کی تعمیر کے بعد ان کو سجانے کا عمل جاری ہے اور اب سمارٹ شہروں کا تصور ترقی یافتہ دنیا میں مقبولیت حاصل کررہا ہے۔

انہوں نے یہ بھی کہا کہ دنیا کے بہت سے شہر پہلے ہی انتہائی ترقی یافتہ اور جدید سہولیات سے آراستہ ہیں جس کی تقلید میں دیگر میٹروپولیٹن شہروں کی انتظامیہ نے بھی جدید طریقوں اور ٹکنالوجی کا بھر پور استعمال کیا ہے۔

احمد نے کہا کہ سڑکوں ، فٹ پاتھوں اور گرین بیلٹوں پر روایتی سائن بورڈز کو خوبصورت بنایا گیا ہے ، جبکہ جدید الیکٹرانک اور ڈیجیٹل ٹکنالوجی کے ذریعے پوری دنیا میں نئے انداز اپنائے جارہے ہیں۔

انہوں نے کہا کہ کراچی کو خوبصورت بنانے کے سلسلے میں تخلیقی عنصر کو مد نظر رکھنا چاہئے ، اور اس سلسلے میں مختلف اداروں سے تعاون طلب کیا جانا چاہئے۔

انہوں نے یہ بھی کہا کہ دنیا کے بڑے اور تجارتی شہروں میں سڑکیں اور دیگر شریانیں بھی محصولات پیدا کرنے کے لئے استعمال ہو رہی ہیں ، لیکن ہمیں اس کے ثقافتی پس منظر میں تجارتی پہلو کے ساتھ ساتھ کراچی کی اہمیت کو بھی اجاگر کرنا ہوگا۔ "کراچی میں کام کرنے والے اداروں اور شہریوں کو بھی اس سلسلے میں اپنا کردار ادا کرنا ہوگا۔

منتظم نے بتایا کہ شہر کے خوبصورتی کے لئے ایک ماسٹر پلان بھی تیار کیا گیا ہے جو مختلف علاقوں کی ضروریات کو مدنظر رکھتے ہوئے ہے۔ "خوبصورتی کے مقاصد صرف اس صورت میں حاصل کیے جائیں گے جب دستیاب انفراسٹرکچر کو کام کرنے کی حالت میں رکھا جائے ، جس کے لئے محکمہ ورکس کی فیلڈ ٹیمیں کام کر رہی ہیں۔

انہوں نے کہا کہ شاہراہ فیصل کی تزئین و آرائش اس طرح کی جانی چاہئے کہ یہ اہم اور مصروف شاہراہیں ایک نئی شکل میں ابھریں۔ "پیدل چلنے والوں کے لئے فرشیں کھلی رہنی چاہئیں ، اور اگر کہیں بھی رکاوٹیں یا تجاوزات ہیں تو انہیں فوری طور پر ہٹایا جانا چاہئے۔"
