KMC clears 80pc of the 169 storm water drain choking points

The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) claims to have cleared almost 80 percent of the 169 choking points of different stormwater drains across the city.

“Pumps have been installed at Sharea Faisal. Drainage machinery has been handed over to technical officers. Action will be taken against those obstructing manholes or drains in the city. It is a criminal act,” said KMC Administrator Laeeq Ahmed.

He was briefing media representatives at the Rosy Warden Headquarters about the existing dewatering pumps, machinery, and vehicle arrangements. He also visited various parts of the city.

Senior Director Coordination Khalid Khan, Senior Director Municipal Services SM Taha, Director General Works Shabih Ul Hasnain Zaidi, Director Noman Arshad, Director City Wardens Raja Rustam, Chief Engineer Electrical Abbas Shah, and other officers were also present on the occasion.

Administrator Ahmed said that all the preparations for the rains have been completed, and hopefully, the drains will not overflow this year. He said the KMC has four-, six- and eight-inch pipes for draining water, for which staff has also been installed. The machinery will be delivered to the relevant place, he added.

“It should reach the people that the KMC will work to the best of its ability, and there is excellent coordination between all the agencies. City wardens will be on roads during the rains and guide citizens along with the traffic police. There is cooperation and collaboration among all civic bodies.”

انہوں نے کہا ، "شیئرہ فیصل پر پمپ لگائے گئے ہیں۔ نکاسی آب کی مشینری تکنیکی افسران کے حوالے کردی گئی ہے۔ شہر میں مین ہولز یا نالیوں میں رکاوٹ ڈالنے والوں کے خلاف کارروائی کی جائے گی۔ کے ایم سی کے ایڈمنسٹریٹر لائق احمد نے کہا کہ یہ ایک مجرمانہ فعل ہے۔

وہ روزی وارڈن ہیڈ کوارٹر میں میڈیا کے نمائندوں کو موجودہ پانی بند کرنے والے پمپوں ، مشینری اور گاڑیوں کے انتظامات کے بارے میں بریفنگ دے رہے تھے۔ انہوں نے شہر کے مختلف حصوں کا بھی دورہ کیا۔

اس موقع پر سینئر ڈائریکٹر کوآرڈینیشن خالد خان ، سینئر ڈائریکٹر میونسپل سروسز ایس ایم طحہ ، ڈائریکٹر جنرل ورکس شبیح الحسنین زیدی ، ڈائریکٹر نعمان ارشاد ، ڈائریکٹر سٹی وارڈنز راجہ رستم ، چیف انجینئر الیکٹریکل عباس شاہ ، اور دیگر افسران بھی موجود تھے۔

انہوں نے کہا کہ لوگوں تک یہ بات پہنچنی چاہئے کہ کے ایم سی اپنی بہترین صلاحیت کے مطابق کام کرے گا ، اور تمام ایجنسیوں کے مابین بہترین ہم آہنگی ہے۔ بارش کے دوران سٹی وارڈن سڑکوں پر ہوں گے اور ٹریفک پولیس کے ساتھ شہریوں کی رہنمائی کریں گے۔ تمام شہری اداروں کے مابین باہمی تعاون اور تعاون ہے۔
