Karachi islands’ fishermen to be vaccinated through boat unit: CM

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has announced the construction of three floating jetties and passenger sheds at Baba and Bhit islands and Mubarak village for Rs250.561 million, saying that he was working on a scheme to construct a bridge connecting all three islands -- Bhit, Baba and Shams Peer -- with the city.

This he said on Wednesday while addressing a reception hosted by fishermen leader Hussain Aslam Bhatti for him on the Bhit Island.

“My village is located near Manchhar Lake, where hundreds of fishermen are living on boats and on its banks,” he said and added that he had first-hand knowledge about fisheries. He said he was also exploring ways and means to filter the water of Manchhar Lake, which had been polluted with the flow of effluents and brackish water from crops. “I have to rehabilitate the fishermen of Manchhar Lake,” he said.

The chief minister asked the fishermen if they were vaccinated. Most of them replied in the negative and said all day long they remained busy fishing; therefore, they could not have got themselves vaccinated.

He directed Commissioner Karachi Naveed Shaikh to arrange a vaccinated unit in a boat and keep the boat moving from one island to the other and vaccinate their entire eligible population.

وزیراعلیٰ سندھ سید مراد علی شاہ نے 250.561 ملین روپے میں بابا اور بھٹ جزائر اور مبارک گاؤں میں تین فلوٹنگ جیٹیاں اور مسافر شیڈ تعمیر کرنے کا اعلان کرتے ہوئے کہا ہے کہ وہ تینوں جزیروں کو جوڑنے والے پل کی تعمیر پر کام کر رہے ہیں۔ بھٹ ، بابا اور شمس پیر - شہر کے ساتھ۔

یہ بات انہوں نے بدھ کے روز بھٹ جزیرے پر ماہی گیر رہنما حسین اسلم بھٹی کی جانب سے ان کے لیے دیئے گئے استقبالیہ سے خطاب کرتے ہوئے کہی۔

انہوں نے کہا کہ میرا گاؤں منچھر جھیل کے قریب واقع ہے ، جہاں سینکڑوں ماہی گیر کشتیوں اور اس کے کناروں پر رہ رہے ہیں۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ وہ منچھر جھیل کے پانی کو فلٹر کرنے کے طریقے اور طریقے بھی تلاش کر رہے ہیں ، جو فصلوں کے گندے پانی اور نکاسی کے بہاؤ سے آلودہ ہو چکا تھا۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ مجھے منچھر جھیل کے ماہی گیروں کی بحالی کرنی ہے۔

وزیراعلیٰ نے ماہی گیروں سے پوچھا کہ کیا انہیں ویکسین دی گئی ہے؟ ان میں سے بیشتر نے نفی میں جواب دیا اور کہا کہ سارا دن وہ ماہی گیری میں مصروف رہے۔ لہذا ، وہ خود کو ویکسین نہیں کروا سکتے تھے۔

انہوں نے کمشنر کراچی نوید شیخ کو ہدایت کی کہ وہ ایک کشتی میں ویکسین یونٹ کا بندوبست کریں اور کشتی کو ایک جزیرے سے دوسرے جزیرے تک منتقل کرتے رہیں اور اپنی پوری اہل آبادی کو ویکسین دیں۔
