Karachi circular railway to introduce electric trains

Federal Minister for Planning Development and Special Initiatives Asad Umar on Wednesday chaired a meeting to review the present status and pace of work on Karachi Circular Railway (KCR).

During the meeting, the secretary of Pakistan Railways informed the minister that the Karachi Circular Railway project was on track as per the timelines given by the ministry. He informed that the KCR envisages the construction of a 43-km long world-class affordable mass transit system using environment-friendly electric trains.

The minister was also briefed on Freight Corridor from Keamari to Pipri Marshalling Yard. The Freight Corridor project, which envisages construction/duali-sation/up-gradation of a 50-km dedicated freight corridor from Karachi Port to Pipri and includes the development of an Inland Container Depot / Marshalling Yard at Pipri. The Project is expected to capture 40% of the cargo meant to be transported to the upcountry.

Asad Umar directed Pakistan Railways to fulfill all the codal formalities at the earliest and ensure to make all the necessary arrangements for the groundbreaking of KCR infrastructure by September 2021. The planning minister also directed all concerned officials to ensure the completion of the projects within the timelines, as these projects were crucial for the socio-economic well-being of the people of Karachi.

 Federal Minister for Railways Azam Khan Swati, Secretary Planning, Secretary Railways, Chief Executive Officer PPP Authority, and senior officials of both ministries participated in the meeting.

اجلاس کے دوران سیکرٹری پاکستان ریلوے نے وزیر کو بتایا کہ کراچی سرکلر ریلوے منصوبہ وزارت کی طرف سے دی گئی ٹائم لائن کے مطابق ٹریک پر ہے۔ انہوں نے بتایا کہ کے سی آر نے ماحول دوست الیکٹرک ٹرینوں کا استعمال کرتے ہوئے 43 کلومیٹر طویل عالمی معیار کے سستی ماس ٹرانزٹ سسٹم کی تعمیر کا تصور کیا ہے۔

وزیر کو کیماڑی سے پپری مارشلنگ یارڈ تک فریٹ کوریڈور پر بھی بریفنگ دی گئی۔ فریٹ کوریڈور پروجیکٹ ، جس میں کراچی پورٹ سے پپری تک 50 کلومیٹر کی سرشار فریٹ کوریڈور کی تعمیر/دوہری سیشن/اپ گریڈیشن کا تصور ہے اور پپری میں اندرون کنٹینر ڈپو/مارشل یارڈ کی ترقی بھی شامل ہے۔ پروجیکٹ سے توقع کی جاتی ہے کہ وہ 40 فیصد کارگو کو ملک میں لے جائے گا۔

اسد عمر نے پاکستان ریلوے کو ہدایت کی کہ وہ تمام کوڈل فارمیلیٹیز کو جلد سے جلد مکمل کرے اور ستمبر 2021 تک کے سی آر انفراسٹرکچر کے سنگ بنیاد کے لیے تمام ضروری انتظامات کو یقینی بنائے۔ ، کیونکہ یہ منصوبے کراچی کے لوگوں کی سماجی و معاشی بہبود کے لیے انتہائی اہم تھے۔

وفاقی وزیر ریلوے اعظم خان سواتی ، سیکرٹری منصوبہ بندی ، سیکرٹری ریلوے ، چیف ایگزیکٹو آفیسر پی پی پی اتھارٹی اور دونوں وزارتوں کے اعلیٰ حکام نے اجلاس میں شرکت کی۔
