K2 base camp area gets internet access and phone coverage

The 4G Base Transceiver Station (BTS) recently installed in Gilgit-Baltistan has been made operational to improve telecommunication services at the K2 base camp area.

With the station becoming operational, mobile phone coverage and internet access in the area will prove to be pivotal for mountaineers and trekking groups to stay connected with their families and for assistance in case of any emergency.

It will also help in wea­ther monitoring and promoting adventure tourism, as in line with government’s vision of promoting tourism across the country, the Pakis­­tan Telecommu­ni­ca­tion Authority (PTA) and telecom operators are focusing on improving telecommunication services in areas full of tourism potential.

The 4G BTS had been installed at the K2 base camp area of Concordia. The site has been named Ali Sadpara in memory of the late mountaineer. It was inaugurated by the prime minister during his recent visit to Gilgit-Baltistan.

The Special Communication Organisation (SCO) made it operational to ensure communication facilities at the base camp of the world’s second tallest peak.

The SCO, established in 1976 to develop, operate and maintain telecom services in Azad Jammu and Kash­mir, and Gilgit-Baltistan, is a public sector organization working under the Ministry of Information Technology.

گلگت بلتستان میں حال ہی میں نصب 4 جی بیس ٹرانسیور اسٹیشن (بی ٹی ایس) کو کے 2 بیس کیمپ کے علاقے میں ٹیلی مواصلات کی خدمات کو بہتر بنانے کے لئے آپریشنل کردیا گیا ہے۔

اس اسٹیشن کے آپریشنل ہونے کے ساتھ ہی ، علاقے میں موبائل فون کوریج اور انٹرنیٹ کی رسائی کوہ پیما افراد اور ٹریکنگ گروپس کو اپنے قریبی لوگوں سے مربوط رہنے کے لئے ایک اہم ثابت ہوگی اور کسی بھی ہنگامی صورتحال کی صورت میں مددگار ثابت ہوگی۔

اس سے ملک کی سیر و سیاحت کو فروغ دینے کے حکومتی وژن کی مناسبت سے پاکستا ن ٹیلی کام مواصلاتی اتھارٹی (پی ٹی اے) اور ٹیلی کام آپریٹرز بہتری لانے پر توجہ دے رہے ہیں۔ سیاحت کی صلاحیت سے بھرے علاقوں میں ٹیلی مواصلات کی صہولت میسر ہے-

4 جی بی ٹی ایس کونکورڈیا کے کے 2 بیس کیمپ ایریا میں لگایا گیا تھا۔ مرحوم کوہ پیما کی یاد میں اس سائٹ کا نام علی سدپارہ رکھا گیا ہے۔ اس کا افتتاح وزیر اعظم نے اپنے حالیہ دورے گلگت بلتستان کے دوران کیا تھا۔

خصوصی مواصلات کی تنظیم (ایس سی او) نے دنیا کی دوسری بلند ترین چوٹی کے بیس کیمپ میں مواصلات کی سہولیات کو یقینی بنانے کے لئے اسے آپریشنل کردیا۔

آزاد جموں اور کشمیر اور گلگت بلتستان میں ٹیلی کام خدمات کی ترقی ، چلانے اور ان کی دیکھ بھال کے لئے 1976 میں قائم کیا گیا ایس سی او ، وزارت انفارمیشن ٹکنالوجی کے تحت کام کرنے والا ایک عوامی شعبہ کا ادارہ ہے۔
