Islamabad: squatters began occupying government land under the Swan River

The ICT administration responded to the squatters' illegal behavior by taking action against them and stopping their operations. However, after the new administration entered office, the same group allegedly with the aid of neighbourhood police officers returned to occupying government property.

They took advantage of Saturday being off by filling up a sizable area near the Swan River, which has made the drainage canals necessary for the upcoming monsoon rains more congested and raised concerns about flooding.

Captain (retd) Muhammad Usman, the chief commissioner of Islamabad and the CDA chairman, was alerted to this situation on Saturday and immediately summoned an emergency meeting to tackle the problem of encroachments and illegal structures in Islamabad.

The meeting's chair instructed the officials to conduct a thorough inspection of Islamabad in order to identify any previously built or currently under construction illegal structures.

اسلام آباد کے چیف کمشنر اور سی ڈی اے کے چیئرمین کیپٹن (ر) محمد عثمان نے ہفتہ کو اس صورتحال سے آگاہ کیا اور اسلام آباد میں تجاوزات اور غیر قانونی تعمیرات کے مسئلے سے نمٹنے کے لیے فوری طور پر ہنگامی اجلاس طلب کیا۔
اجلاس کی صدارت نے حکام کو ہدایت کی کہ وہ اسلام آباد کا مکمل معائنہ کریں تاکہ پہلے سے تعمیر شدہ یا اس وقت زیر تعمیر غیر قانونی تعمیرات کی نشاندہی کی جا سکے۔
