Hybrid Seminar Terms 10 Billion Afforestation Project Great Success

The seminar on ‘Sustainable Forest Ecosystem Management in Pakistan’ was organized by the Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI) in collaboration with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the government of Pakistan, University of Peshawar, Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women University, Hazara University, Gomal University and the University of Haripur in connection with the World Environment Day 2021.

He said that it was important to harvest olive trees, and it is made mandatory in 10 billion tsunami trees to harvest 10 percent plants of nutritional importance. “We have huge land and thus, plants should also be planted in educational institutions,” he remarked. “The introduction of fruit trees in the 10 billion tsunami project will have a huge economic impact on Pakistan. Therefore, 70 million olive plants have been planted as one olive plant can produce more than 150kg of olive. The initiative will help reduce unemployment,” he added.

Provincial Minister for Environment, Forest and Wildlife, KP Syed Muhammad Ishtiaq said trees have been harvested on more than 500,000 hectares of land. He said that the government was committed to the cause of climate change.

The government first started a one billion tree program in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and later on scaled it up at the country level making it its flagship 10 billion tree tsunami, he added.

The efforts would be useful in improving the forest cover of the country and would help protect the forest ecosystem with better forest management, he added. “We have set up six national parks. We have three types of forest, communal forest, protected forest, and reserve forest. We have zero-tolerance for exploiting protected and reserve forests,” he said.

پائیدار ترقیاتی پالیسی انسٹیٹیوٹ (ایس ڈی پی آئی) نے پاکستان میں ، جامعہ پشاور ، یونیورسٹی آف پشاور ، شہید بے نظیر بھٹو ویمن یونیورسٹی ، ہزارہ یونیورسٹی کے تعاون سے "پاکستان میں پائیدار جنگل ماحولیاتی نظام" پر سیمینار کا انعقاد پائیدار ترقیاتی پالیسی انسٹیٹیوٹ (ایس ڈی پی آئی) نے کیا۔ ، عالمی یوم ماحولیات 2021 کے سلسلے میں گومل یونیورسٹی اور ہری پور یونیورسٹی۔

انہوں نے کہا کہ زیتون کے درختوں کی کٹائی کرنا ضروری تھا ، اور سونامی کے 10 درختوں میں غذائی اہمیت والے 10 فیصد پودوں کی کٹائی لازمی قرار دی گئی ہے۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ ہمارے پاس بہت بڑی اراضی ہے اور اس طرح تعلیمی اداروں میں بھی پودے لگانے چاہئیں۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ سونامی منصوبے میں پھلوں کے درختوں کا تعارف پاکستان پر بہت بڑا معاشی اثر ڈالے گا۔ لہذا ، 70 ملین زیتون کے پودے لگائے گئے ہیں کیونکہ ایک زیتون کا پودا 150 کلوگرام زیتون پیدا کرسکتا ہے۔ اس اقدام سے بے روزگاری کو کم کرنے میں مدد ملے گی۔

صوبائی وزیر برائے ماحولیات ، جنگلات اور وائلڈ لائف ، کے پی سید محمد اشتیاق نے بتایا کہ پانچ لاکھ ہیکٹر سے زیادہ اراضی پر درختوں کی کٹائی کی گئی ہے۔

انہوں نے کہا کہ حکومت آب و ہوا کی تبدیلی کی وجوہ کے لئے پرعزم ہے۔

انہوں نے مزید کہا کہ حکومت نے پہلے خیبر پختون خوا میں ایک ارب درختوں کا پروگرام شروع کیا اور بعد میں اسے ملکی سطح پر بڑھا کر اسے 10 ارب درخت سونامی بنا دیا۔

انہوں نے مزید کہا کہ یہ کوششیں ملک کے جنگلات کے احاطہ کو بہتر بنانے میں کارآمد ثابت ہوں گی اور جنگل کے ماحولیاتی نظام کو بہتر جنگلاتی انتظام کے ساتھ تحفظ میں مدد فراہم کریں گی۔ “ہم نے چھ قومی پارکس قائم کیے ہیں۔ ہمارے پاس تین اقسام کے جنگلات ہیں ، فرقہ وارانہ جنگل ، محفوظ جنگل اور محفوظ جنگلات۔ ہمارے پاس محفوظ اور محفوظ جنگلات کے استحصال کے لئے صفر رواداری ہے۔
