Govt. Starts Crackdown Against Misuse of Residential Properties

According to the information given by the Punjab Housing and Town Planning Agency (PHATA), the properties owned in the government housing schemes have been freely used for commercial use, by the individuals and this misuse has cost billions to the provincial department. 

In five districts, the owners of about 2,900 properties in government housing schemes are in debts of Rs.22 billion in commercial dues. Therefore, the housing department has started a crackdown against the misuse of residential properties and managed to recover Rs.320 million. 

The department will now survey to find out the violators who are indulging in illegal usage of residential properties for commercial activities. Further actions will also be taken against these individuals and the process is in progress for digitizing its services, such as future allotments, property records, transfer, government payments, and the approval of maps.

This process had to be accomplished within 250 days, but the department could scan not more than 94,000 property documents. While now in its fifth year, the project has more than 175,000 records which are still needed to be digitized. 

PHATA had constructed a total of 169 housing schemes across the province under the administration of the housing department and provided 175,000 plots to white-collar citizens on average. According to a survey, these properties are being used for commercial activities with no approval from the department.

With Prime Minister Imran Khan`s introduction of a new housing scheme, the provincial government has accelerated its efforts to resolve all ongoing issues regarding properties. The provincial and federal authorities, both are working together to make sure that all the issues get resolved as soon as possible.
