Germany Signs €129m Financial Cooperation Agreement with Pakistan

Funds will be allocated to different projects in Pakistan including digital governance, social protection, promotion of start-ups, enhanced use of solar energy, self-employment of women in the private health sector, and development of hydropower and renewable energy.

Minister for Economic Affairs Omar Ayub Khan, who attended the agreement-signing ceremony, appreciated Germany’s enhanced bilateral economic cooperation with Pakistan.

“Pakistan and Germany are longstanding development partners and I congratulate both sides on completing 60 years of development cooperation,” Mr. Khan said.

Prior to the signing of the agreement, biennial negotiations on development cooperation between the two governments were held. Secretary of Economic Affairs Division Mian Asad Hayauddin led the Pakistan delegation, while the German delegation was headed by Commissioner for Asia at the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development and included representatives from the German Foreign Office, KfW, GIZ, and the Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources.

The two sides took stock of the existing development cooperation and expressed satisfaction at the trajectory of cooperation in different areas since 1961.

As a result of the negotiations, Germany committed €129m for future German development cooperation in Pakistan in addition to the ongoing portfolio.

اسلام آباد: جرمنی نے منگل کو پاکستان کے ساتھ ملک میں ترقیاتی منصوبوں کی مالی معاونت کے لیے 129 ملین یورو کے مالیاتی تعاون کے معاہدے پر دستخط کیے ہیں۔

پاکستان میں مختلف منصوبوں کے لیے فنڈز مختص کیے جائیں گے جن میں ڈیجیٹل گورننس، سماجی تحفظ، اسٹارٹ اپس کے فروغ، شمسی توانائی کے بہتر استعمال، نجی صحت کے شعبے میں خواتین کی خود روزگاری اور پن بجلی اور قابل تجدید توانائی کی ترقی شامل ہیں۔

وزیر اقتصادی امور عمر ایوب خان، جنہوں نے معاہدے پر دستخط کی تقریب میں شرکت کی، نے پاکستان کے ساتھ جرم��ی کے بڑھے ہوئے دوطرفہ اقتصادی تعاون کو سراہا۔

مسٹر خان نے کہا، "پاکستان اور جرمنی دیرینہ ترقیاتی شراکت دار ہیں اور میں دونوں فریقین کو ترقیاتی تعاون کے 60 سال مکمل کرنے پر مبارکباد دیتا ہوں۔"

معاہدے پر دستخط سے قبل دونوں حکومتوں کے درمیان ترقیاتی تعاون پر دو سالہ مذاکرات ہوئے۔ سیکرٹری اقتصادی امور ڈویژن میاں اسد حیا الدین نے پاکستانی وفد کی قیادت کی جبکہ جرمن وفد کی قیادت وفاقی وزارت اقتصادی تعاون اور ترقی کے کمشنر برائے ایشیا کر رہے تھے اور اس میں جرمن دفتر خارجہ، KfW، GIZ اور فیڈرل انسٹی ٹیوٹ فار جیو سائنسز کے نمائندے شامل تھے۔

دونوں فریقوں نے موجودہ ترقیاتی تعاون کا جائزہ لیا اور 1961 سے مختلف شعبوں میں تعاون کی رفتار پر اطمینان کا اظہار کیا۔

مذاکرات کے نتیجے میں، جرمنی نے جاری پورٹ فولیو کے علاوہ پاکستان میں مستقبل میں جرمن ترقیاتی تعاون کے لیے129ملین یورو کا وعدہ کیا۔
