GB, KPK, UNDP, to protect mountain communities from natural calamities

Malik Amin Aslam, Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Climate Change said that the present government is taking all possible measures to lessen the unpleasant impacts of climate change that cause disasters on mountain communities in the northern areas of Pakistan.

He said on the occasion of a high-level ceremony held for signing of different Letter of Agreements (LoAs) between United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Gilgit-Baltistan and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa governments for protecting the lives as well as livelihoods of people in Gilgit-Baltistan, and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa regions from destructive impacts of the climate change-induced climatic disasters, particularly the Glacial Lake Outburst Flood events.

Highlighting the role of UNDP in environmental protection, and lessening of climate change-induced natural disasters, he said that the present government is deeply grateful to the financial as well as technical support given to various government organizations which include climate change ministry for enhancing climate rigidity of the country against various natural disasters, and overall maintenance, and protection of the country’s environment, along with its natural resources.

 “Given the backdrop, I hope that the new agreement signed between UNDP and the governments of Gilgit-Baltistan and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa would go a long way to help strengthen capacity and ability of the institutions and people in these areas to mitigate socio-economic and environmental impacts of natural disasters,” PM’s aide Malik Amin Aslam stressed upon it.

The Letters of Agreements (LOAs) were signed by Mr. Knut Ostby, Resident Representative of UNDP-Pakistan, and Syed Abrar Hussain, Additional Chief Secretary of Gilgit-Baltistan Planning & Development Department, and Lt (R) Amer Sultan Tareen, Special Secretary of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Planning & Development Department.

اسلام آباد: موسمیاتی تبدیلی سے متعلق وزیر اعظم کے معاون خصوصی کے مطابق ، موجودہ حکومت پہاڑی طبقات کو قدرتی آفات سے بچانے کے لئے ہر ممکن اقدامات اٹھا رہی ہے۔

وزیر موسمیاتی تبدیلی سے متعلق معاون خصوصی ملک امین اسلم نے کہا کہ موجودہ حکومت موسمیاتی تبدیلی کے ناخوشگوار اثرات کو کم کرنے کے لئے ہر ممکن اقدامات اٹھا رہی ہے جس سے پاکستان کے شمالی علاقوں میں پہاڑی برادریوں پر تباہی پھیل رہی ہے۔

انہوں نے کہا کہ اقوام متحدہ کے ترقیاتی پروگرام (یو این ڈی پی) ، گلگت بلتستان اور خیبر پختونخوا حکومتوں کے مابین مختلف جان لیٹر آف معاہدوں پر دستخط کے لئے منعقدہ ایک اعلی سطحی تقریب کے موقع پر لوگوں کی جانوں کے ساتھ ساتھ لوگوں کی روزگار کے تحفظ کے لئے بھی کیا گیا۔ گلگت بلتستان ، اور خیبر پختون خوا کے علاقوں میں موسمیاتی تبدیلیوں سے متاثرہ موسمیاتی آفات کے تباہ کن اثرات سے ، خاص طور پر گلیشیئل جھیل آؤٹ برسٹ سیلاب کے واقعات سے بچنے کے لئے-

ماحولیاتی تحفظ میں قدرتی آفات سے نمٹنے اور یو ان ڈی پی کے کردار پر روشنی ڈالتے ہوئے انہوں نے کہا کہ موجودہ حکومت موسمیاتی سختی کو بڑھانے کے لئے مختلف موسمی تنظیموں کو دی جانے والی مالی اور تکنیکی مدد کی گہرائی سے شکرگزار ہے۔ مختلف قدرتی آفات ، اور مجموعی طور پر بحالی ، اور اس کے قدرتی وسائل کے ساتھ ساتھ ملک کے ماحول کے تحفظ کے خلاف کام کرے گی-

انہوں نے کہا کہ اس پس منظر کو دیکھتے ہوئے مجھے امید ہے کہ یو این ڈی پی اور گلگت بلتستان اور خیبر پختونخوا کی حکومتوں کے مابین طے پانے والا نیا معاہدہ معاشی و معاشی کے خاتمے کے لئے ان علاقوں میں اداروں اور لوگوں کی صلاحیت اور صلاحیت کو مستحکم کرنے میں مدد فراہم کرے گا۔ قدرتی آفات کے ماحولیاتی اثرات ، "وزیر اعظم کے معاون ملک امین اسلم نے اس پر زور دیا۔

خطوط کے معاہدوں (ایل او اے) پر یو این ڈی پی پاکستان کے رہائشی نمائندے مسٹر نٹ اوسبی ، اور گلگت بلتستان کے محکمہ منصوبہ بندی و ترقیات کے ایڈیشنل چیف سکریٹری سید ابرار حسین اور خصوصی سکریٹری لیفٹیننٹ (ر) عامر سلطان ترین نے دستخط کیے۔
