Environmental audit of housing schemes to be introduced

According to the news sources, the federal government introduced National Environment Policy that was fully endorsed by the provincial governments.

“Now the federal government is going to make concerted efforts with the help of the provincial governments to ensure environmental audit of every housing society to determine whether or not it is causing damage to the natural environment,”

While talking to the media, an official said every provincial government has its own environment wing that keeps vigil over the construction activities but there is no proper mechanism to carry out an environmental audit of the housing schemes.

“The provincial environment wings hold hearings in which they listen to the concerns of the stakeholders but we want them to move further and monitor the construction activities that must be in line with the environmental laws,” he said.

According to the details, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Climate Change Malik Amin Aslam has said “We believe that housing policy should be set within the overarching context of environmental limits. All new housing should be built to standards that minimize environmental impacts.”

نیوز ذرائع کے مطابق وفاقی حکومت نے قومی ماحولیاتی پالیسی متعارف کرائی جس کی صوبائی حکومتوں نے مکمل توثیق کی۔
"اب وفاقی حکومت صوبائی حکومتوں کے ساتھ مل کر ٹھوس کوششیں کرنے جا رہی ہے تاکہ ہر ہاؤسنگ سوسائٹی کا ماحولیاتی آڈٹ یقینی بنایا جا سکے تاکہ یہ معلوم کیا جا سکے کہ آیا اس سے قدرتی ماحول کو نقصان پہنچ رہا ہے یا نہیں"۔
میڈیا سے بات کرتے ہوئے، ایک اہلکار نے کہا کہ ہر صوبائی حکومت کا اپنا ماحولیات ونگ ہے جو تعمیراتی سرگرمیوں پر نظر رکھتا ہے لیکن ہاؤسنگ سکیموں کے ماحولیاتی آڈٹ کے لیے کوئی مناسب طریقہ کار نہیں ہے۔
انہوں نے کہا کہ "صوبائی ماحولیاتی ونگ سماعتیں کرتے ہیں جس میں وہ اسٹیک ہولڈرز کے تحفظات سنتے ہیں لیکن ہم چاہتے ہیں کہ وہ مزید آگے بڑھیں اور تعمیراتی سرگرمیوں کی نگرانی کریں جو ماحولیاتی قوانین کے مطابق ہونی چاہئیں"۔
تفصیلات کے مطابق وزیر اعظم کے معاون خصوصی برائے موسمیاتی تبدیلی ملک امین اسلم نے کہا ہے کہ 'ہم سمجھتے ہیں کہ ہاؤسنگ پالیسی کو ماحولیاتی حدود کے بنیادی تناظر میں مرتب کیا جانا چاہیے۔ تمام نئے مکانات کو ان معیارات کے مطابق بنایا جانا چاہیے جو ماحولیاتی اثرات کو کم سے کم کریں۔"
