EDB Chief Sees Auto Industry Doubling Output by 2026

It would approximately be more than double what the auto industry has been producing at the moment. The two-wheel segment targets three million motorcycles to be produced during the ongoing fiscal year.

The industry has just once crossed the 300,000-mark in the four-wheel passenger cars segment in 2018. “The new auto policy has a strong focus on export as well as capacity enhancement of the industry,” said the chairman at an annual dinner of the Pakistan Association of Automotive Parts and Accessories Manufacturers (PAAPAM).

The policy, according to Hyder, would increase two-wheel (motorcycle) production nearly three-fold to seven million bikes from approximately 2.5 million recorded in the fiscal year 2021, which is so far the highest ever sales in the segment.

He added that the policy would also jack up production of passenger cars to 600,000 in four-wheelers. In the fiscal year 2021, car sales stood at 238,000.

However, the all-time high car sales were recorded in 2018 at 329,000 cars. He expects tractor sales to double from 50,000 units presently to over 100,000 in 2026.

Meanwhile, PAAPAM announced that the 19th edition of the Pakistan Auto Show is going to be held at Karachi Expo Centre from January 21-23. “The auto show is a very important opportunity for local companies and businesses in Pakistan to showcase their capabilities,” said Zain Shariq, Convener of PAS 2022.

He added that the auto show reflects the level of engineering that’s being undertaken in Pakistan and how it is adding value to the local manufacturing industry, hence a good avenue for our consumers and policymakers to witness local development.

Zain added that a strong showcase of diverse models is expected at the show since a large number of new entrants have entered the market.

صنعت نے صرف ایک بار 2018 میں چار پہیوں والی مسافر کاروں کے سیگمنٹ میں 300,000 کا ہندسہ عبور کیا ہے۔ "نئی آٹو پالیسی میں برآمدات کے ساتھ ساتھ صنعت کی صلاحیت بڑھانے پر بھی زور دیا گیا ہے،" چیئرمین نے سالانہ عشائیہ میں کہا۔ پاکستان ایسوسی ایشن آف آٹو موٹیو پارٹس اینڈ اسیسریز مینوفیکچررز (PAAPAM)۔

ہائیڈر کے مطابق، پالیسی دو پہیوں (موٹرسائیکل) کی پیداوار میں تقریباً تین گنا اضافہ کرے گی جو کہ مالی سال 2021 میں ریکارڈ کی گئی تقریباً 2.5 ملین بائک سے 70 لاکھ ہو جائے گی، جو اس شعبے میں اب تک کی سب سے زیادہ فروخت ہے۔

انہوں نے مزید کہا کہ یہ پالیسی چار پہیوں میں مسافر کاروں کی پیداوار کو 600,000 تک لے جائے گی۔ مالی سال 2021 میں کاروں کی فروخت 238,000 رہی۔

تاہم، 2018 میں 329,000 کاروں پر اب تک کی سب سے زیادہ کاروں کی فروخت ریکارڈ کی گئی۔ وہ توقع کرتا ہے کہ ٹریکٹر کی فروخت موجودہ 50,000 یونٹس سے 2026 میں 100,000 سے دوگنی ہوجائے گی۔

دریں اثنا، PAAPAM نے اعلان کیا کہ پاکستان آٹو شو کا 19 واں ایڈیشن 21 سے 23 جنوری تک کراچی ایکسپو سینٹر میں منعقد ہونے جا رہا ہے۔ PAS 2022 کے کنوینر زین شارق نے کہا، "آٹو شو پاکستان میں مقامی کمپنیوں اور کاروباری اداروں کے لیے اپنی صلاحیتوں کو ظاہر کرنے کا ایک بہت اہم موقع ہے۔"

انہوں نے مزید کہا کہ آٹو شو پاکستان میں انجینیئرنگ کی سطح کی عکاسی کرتا ہے اور یہ کہ کس طرح مقامی مینوفیکچرنگ انڈسٹری میں قدر میں اضافہ کر رہا ہے، اس لیے ہمارے صارفین اور پالیسی سازوں کے لیے مقامی ترقی کا مشاہدہ کرنے کا ایک اچھا ذریعہ ہے۔

زین نے مزید کہا کہ شو میں متنوع ماڈلز کی ایک مضبوط نمائش متوقع ہے کیونکہ بڑی تعداد میں نئے لوگ مارکیٹ میں داخل ہوئے ہیں۔
