Danish company to help WASA in construction of treatment plant

Danish International Development Assistance (DANIDA) has agreed to provide technical and financial assistance to the Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa) to construct a Waste Water Treatment Plant (WWTP) at an estimated cost of US$ 100 million in the provincial metropolis.

The proposed plant will be constructed at Wasa’s disposal station at Kartar Bund Road in Southern Lahore region. Presently, the DANIDA was in the process of hiring a consultant to carry out the feasibility study of the project while Wasa was preparing the TORs for the hiring of a consultant in consultation with DANIDA.

Managing Director Wasa Syed Zahid Aziz said out of the estimated cost of the project US $ 100 million around 65 percent will be a soft term loan while the remaining 35 percent will be the financial aid.

He said Lahore is the second-largest city in Pakistan and it is expanding rapidly. He said the construction of wastewater treatment plants in the city was the topmost priority of the present government and Wasa was assigned to complete this task.

“Currently most of the wastewater generated in Lahore is being discharged into River Ravi through 13 disposal stations and there is no water treatment plant installed at these points,” Wasa MD said and maintained that an estimated 2.45 million cubic meter/day (1,000 cusecs) of untreated wastewater containing domestic sewage was being disposed of into River Ravi.

دانش انٹرنیشنل ڈویلپمنٹ اسسٹنس (ڈینیڈا) نے صوبائی دارالحکومت میں 100 ملین امریکی ڈالر کی تخمینہ لاگت سے واٹر واٹر ٹریٹمنٹ پلانٹ (ڈبلیو ڈبلیو ٹی پی) کی تعمیر کے لئے واٹر اینڈ سیینیٹیشن ایجنسی (واسا) کو تکنیکی اور مالی مدد فراہم کرنے پر اتفاق کیا ہے۔

مجوزہ پلانٹ جنوبی لاہور کے علاقے میں کرتار بند روڈ پر واسا کے ضائع کرنے والے اسٹیشن پر تعمیر کیا جائے گا۔ اس وقت ، ڈینیڈا اس منصوبے کی فزیبلٹی اسٹڈی کے ل a ایک مشیر کی خدمات حاصل کرنے کے عمل میں ہے جبکہ واسا دانیڈا کے ساتھ مشاورت سے مشیر کی خدمات حاصل کرنے کے لئے ٹی او آرز تیار کررہا تھا۔

منیجنگ ڈائریکٹر واسا سید زاہد عزیز نے کہا کہ اس منصوبے کی تخمینی لاگت میں سے 65 ملین امریکی ڈالر کے لگ بھگ 65 فیصد نرم مدت کا قرض ہوگا جبکہ بقیہ 35 فیصد مالی امداد ہوگی۔

انہوں نے کہا کہ لاہور پاکستان کا دوسرا سب سے بڑا شہر ہے اور یہ تیزی سے پھیل رہا ہے۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ شہر میں گندے پانی کی صفائی کے پلانٹوں کی تعمیر موجودہ حکومت کی اولین ترجیح ہے اور واسا کو اس کام کو مکمل کرنے کے لئے تفویض کیا گیا ہے۔

واسا کے ایم ڈی نے بتایا کہ "اس وقت لاہور میں پیدا ہونے والا بیشتر گندے پانی کو 13 ڈسپوزل اسٹیشنوں کے ذریعے دریائے راوی میں خارج کیا جارہا ہے اور ان مقامات پر واٹر ٹریٹمنٹ پلانٹ بھی نہیں لگایا گیا ہے ،" واسا کے ایم ڈی نے بتایا اور کہا کہ ایک اندازے کے مطابق 2.45 ملین مکعب میٹر / دن (ایک ہزار کیوسک) گھریلو نکاسی آب پر مشتمل غیر علاج شدہ گندے پانی کا دریائے راوی میں تصرف کیا جارہا ہے۔
