CS reviews progress on ADB-funded projects

A five-member delegation of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) led by US Alternate Executive Director John Hurley met with Chief Secretary Punjab Kamran Ali Afzal at the Civil Secretariat.

The meeting also reviewed the progress on ongoing ADB-funded projects in the province and discussed ways to enhance cooperation and collaboration in various fields.

Speaking on the occasion, John Hurley said that the ADB is willing to enhance cooperation with the Punjab govt in the areas of social development, agriculture, environment, etc.

The Chief Secretary said that the investment of ADB in Punjab is highly appreciable as it would help achieve the targets related to development, social and economic uplift.

He assured full cooperation in partnership between the provincial govt and the ADB. The delegates appreciated the efforts being made by the Punjab govt for economic development and said that the ADB would continue to play its role in the progress of Pakistan.

The delegation included Country Director Mr. Yong Ye, Asad Aleem, Noor Ahmed, and Umar Ali Shah while Secretary Planning and Development Mujahid Sher Dil was also present.

Meanwhile, Asian Development Bank (ADB) Alternative Executive Director John Hurley and Country Director Yong Ye called on Chairman Planning and Development Board Abdullah Khan Sumbal at P&D Complex.

The objective of the meeting was to discuss provincial development outlay, priorities, and implementation challenges, besides discussing ADB’s portfolio. In this regard, a thorough briefing was given to ADB officials.

It was briefed that 07 projects of ADB (costing US$ 821.642 million) including Irrigation, Urban Development, Energy and Regional Planning are actively working in the province while 15 projects (costing US$ 1985.21 million) including Urban Development, Irrigation, Agriculture, Roads, Skills, Education and Environment are in pipeline.

چیف سیکرٹری پنجاب کامران علی افضل سے یو ایس الٹرنیٹ ایگزیکٹو ڈائریکٹر جان ہرلی کی قیادت میں ایشیائی ترقیاتی بینک (ADB) کے پانچ رکنی وفد نے سول سیکرٹریٹ میں ملاقات کی۔

اجلاس میں صوبے میں ADB کے فنڈز سے چلنے والے جاری منصوبوں پر پیش رفت کا بھی جائزہ لیا گیا اور مختلف شعبوں میں تعاون اور اشتراک کو بڑھانے کے طریقوں پر تبادلہ خیال کیا گیا۔

اس موقع پر جان ہرلے نے کہا کہ اے ڈی بی پنجاب حکومت کے ساتھ سماجی ترقی، زراعت، ماحولیات وغیرہ کے شعبوں میں تعاون بڑھانے کے لیے تیار ہے۔

چیف سیکرٹری نے کہا کہ پنجاب میں اے ڈی بی کی سرمایہ کاری قابل تعریف ہے کیونکہ اس سے ترقی، سماجی اور معاشی بہتری کے اہداف حاصل کرنے میں مدد ملے گی۔

انہوں نے صوبائی حکومت اور اے ڈی بی کے درمیان شراکت داری میں مکمل تعاون کا یقین دلایا۔ مندوبین نے پنجاب حکومت کی معاشی ترقی کے لیے کی جانے والی کوششوں کو سراہا اور کہا کہ اے ڈی بی پاکستان کی ترقی میں اپنا کردار ادا کرتا رہے گا۔

وفد میں کنٹری ڈائریکٹر مسٹر یونگ یی، اسد علیم، نور احمد، اور عمر علی شاہ شامل تھے جبکہ سیکرٹری پلاننگ اینڈ ڈویلپمنٹ مجاہد شیر دل بھی موجود تھے۔

دریں اثناء ایشیائی ترقیاتی بنک (ADB) کے متبادل ایگزیکٹو ڈائریکٹر جان ہرلے اور کنٹری ڈائریکٹر یونگ یی نے چیئرمین پلاننگ اینڈ ڈویلپمنٹ بورڈ عبداللہ خان سنبل سے پی اینڈ ڈی کمپلیکس میں ملاقات کی۔

اجلاس کا مقصد ADB کے پورٹ فولیو پر تبادلہ خیال کے علاوہ صوبائی ترقیاتی اخراجات، ترجیحات اور نفاذ کے چیلنجز پر تبادلہ خیال کرنا تھا۔ اس حوالے سے اے ڈی بی حکام کو تفصیلی بریفنگ دی گئی۔

بریفنگ میں بتایا گیا کہ ADB کے 07 منصوبے (821.642 ملین امریکی ڈالر لاگت) بشمول آبپاشی، شہری ترقی، توانائی اور علاقائی منصوبہ بندی صوبے میں فعال طور پر کام کر رہے ہیں جبکہ 15 منصوبے (امریکی ڈالر 1985.21 ملین لاگت کے) بشمول شہری ترقی، آبپاشی، زراعت، سڑکیں ہنر، تعلیم اور ماحولیات پائپ لائن میں ہیں۔
