Construction on Diamer-Bhasha Dam initiated

The Diamer-Bhasha Dam is the third largest hydroelectric dam for generating electricity in Chilas city of Gilgit-Baltistan in the north of Pakistan.

The Prime Minister Imran Khan while inspecting the construction work said that the government will build the largest dam in the history of Pakistan, in near future, by exploiting the hydropower potentials that not only will suit the environment but will create job opportunities, revitalize the economy, and boost the tourism in the region.

He added that his country would stop importing mineral fuels and using coal to generate electricity, considering that the completion of the Diamer-Bhasha Dam would change the lives of the residents of Gilgit-Baltistan.

Meanwhile, China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, CPEC, Chairman Lieutenant General (Retd.) Asim Saleem Bajwa said on social media that the dam's 6.4MAF (million-acre feet) of water would irrigate at least 1.2 million acres of the agricultural area in the country.

The hydel power project would generate 4,500 MW of affordable, environmentally-friendly electricity and boosting the cement and steel industry sectors, he added. Besides the power and irrigation factors, the dam is expected to create around 16,000 jobs in the country, which is the biggest plus point.

وزیر اعظم عمران خان نے تعمیراتی کام کا معائنہ کرتے ہوئے کہا کہ حکومت پاکستان کی تاریخ کا سب سے بڑا ڈیم تعمیر کرے گی ، مستقبل قریب میں ، پن بجلی کی صلاحیتوں کا استحصال کرکے جو نہ صرف ماحول کے مطابق ہوگی بلکہ ملازمت کے مواقع پیدا کرے گی ، معیشت کی بحالی ہوگی۔ ، اور خطے میں سیاحت کو فروغ دینا۔

انہوں نے مزید کہا کہ ان کا ملک بجلی پیدا کرنے کے لئے معدنی ایندھن کی درآمد اور کوئلے کا استعمال بند کردے گا ، اس بات پر غور کرتے ہوئے کہ دیامر بھاشا ڈیم کی تکمیل سے گلگت بلتستان کے رہائشیوں کی زندگی بدل جائے گی۔

دریں اثنا ، چین پاکستان اقتصادی راہداری کے چیئرمین لیفٹیننٹ جنرل (ریٹائرڈ) عاصم سلیم باجوہ نے سوشل میڈیا پر کہا کہ ڈیم کا 6.4MAF (ملین ایکڑ فٹ) پانی کم از کم 1.2 ملین ایکڑ زرعی رقبہ کو سیراب کرے گا۔ ملک.
