Construction of 10 Dams to Double Pakistan’s Water Storage Capacity: PM

According to the news sources, He was addressing an international symposium regarding hydropower development in Islamabad on Monday.

According to the details, The Prime Minister regretted the indifference of previous governments to the construction of big water reservoirs. He pointed out that China constructed five thousand dams whilst Pakistan only built two major dams back in the 60s. PM said that had the hydropower potential of the country been tapped, the country today would not have been faced with the issue of rising prices of electricity as well as inflation.

According to the news sources, The Prime Minister expressed satisfaction that his government whilst rushing the forward-looking approach decided to construct ten dams in a decade time.

While addressing the symposium, He said given the increase in our population, we have to bring more land under cultivation in areas such as D.I.Khan, Balochistan, and Thar, which can be done with the availability of water. He said Pakistan can become a wheat and cotton exporting country by irrigating more land.

As regards the proposal of the Minister for Water Resources Moonis Elahi for the construction of the Kalabagh Dam, the Prime Minister acknowledged that Pakistan requires more water storage capacity and the very site of Kalabagh is very appropriate for the dam.

اسلام آباد: وزیراعظم عمران خان نے کہا ہے کہ حکومت کی جانب سے بنائے جانے والے 10 ڈیموں سے ملک میں پانی ذخیرہ کرنے کی گنجائش دوگنی ہو جائے گی اور موسمیاتی اثرات کو کم کرنے میں مدد ملے گی۔
نیوز ذرائع کے مطابق وہ پیر کو اسلام آباد میں ہائیڈرو پاور ڈویلپمنٹ کے حوالے سے بین الاقوامی سمپوزیم سے خطاب کر رہے تھے۔
تفصیلات کے مطابق وزیراعظم نے پانی کے بڑے ذخائر کی تعمیر پر سابقہ حکومتوں کی بے حسی پر افسوس کا اظہار کیا۔ انہوں نے نشاندہی کی کہ چین نے پانچ ہزار ڈیم بنائے جب کہ پاکستان نے 60 کی دہائی میں صرف دو بڑے ڈیم بنائے۔ وزیراعظم نے کہا کہ اگر ملک کی پن بجلی کی صلاحیت کو بروئے کار لایا جاتا تو آج ملک کو بجلی کی بڑھتی قیمتوں اور مہنگائی کا سامنا نہ کرنا پڑتا۔
خبر رساں ذرائع کے مطابق وزیراعظم نے اس بات پر اطمینان کا اظہار کیا کہ ان کی حکومت نے آگے بڑھتے ہوئے ایک دہائی میں دس ڈیم بنانے کا فیصلہ کیا۔
سمپوزیم سے خطاب کرتے ہوئے انہوں نے کہا کہ ہماری آبادی میں اضافے کے پیش نظر ہمیں ڈی آئی خان، بلوچستان اور تھر جیسے علاقوں میں زیادہ سے زیادہ زمین کو زیر کاشت لانا ہو گا جو پانی کی دستیابی سے ہو سکتا ہے۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ پاکستان زیادہ زمین سیراب کرکے گندم اور کپاس برآمد کرنے والا ملک بن سکتا ہے۔
کالاباغ ڈیم کی تعمیر کے لیے وزیر برائے آبی وسائل مونس الٰہی کی تجویز کے حوالے سے وزیراعظم نے تسلیم کیا کہ پاکستان کو پانی ذخیرہ کرنے کی زیادہ صلاحیت کی ضرورت ہے اور کالاباغ کی جگہ ڈیم کے لیے بہت موزوں ہے۔
