Azadi plantation campaign turns into success story in twin cities

The Azadi Tree Plantation campaign has become a success story in the twin cities as hundreds of residents have so far planted trees in different locations and it still continues despite the passage of Independence Day.

“Many thought that the Azadi Tree Plantation campaign would be for a one day only but now it has become a continuous process as individuals and various organizations are coming forward for the plantation of trees in coordination with the local authorities,” said Wazir Ahmad, an environmentalist.

He said: “We ask people that if they want to plant trees then they should coordinate with the local authorities that can guide them about the proper locations with an aim to ensure maximum survival rate. It is really amazing to see that the people are now quite aware of the issue of tree plantation and they want to play their due role in this respect.”

Shahid Abbas, a local engineer, said “I came to know about the Azadi Tree Plantation campaign through social media. Then I contacted the local authorities and asked them about my wish to plant trees.”

“When I was given time then I went to a nearby area with my three kids—two sons and a daughter—and planted four trees. It was a great experience and we will also continue it in the future,” he said.

جڑواں شہروں میں آزادی درخت لگانے کی مہم ایک کامیاب کہانی بن چکی ہے کیونکہ سینکڑوں باشندوں نے اب تک مختلف مقامات پر درخت لگائے ہیں اور یوم آزادی کے گزرنے کے باوجود یہ سلسلہ جاری ہے۔

وزیر احمد نے کہا ، "بہت سے لوگوں کا خیال تھا کہ آزادی کے درخت لگانے کی مہم صرف ایک دن کے لیے ہوگی لیکن اب یہ ایک مسلسل عمل بن گیا ہے کیونکہ افراد اور مختلف تنظیمیں مقامی حکام کے ساتھ مل کر درخت لگانے کے لیے آگے آ رہی ہیں۔"

انہوں نے کہا: "ہم لوگوں سے پوچھتے ہیں کہ اگر وہ درخت لگانا چاہتے ہیں تو انہیں مقامی حکام کے ساتھ ہم آہنگی کرنی چاہیے جو انہیں مناسب مقامات کے بارے میں رہنمائی دے سکے تاکہ زیادہ سے زیادہ بقا کی شرح کو یقینی بنایا جا سکے۔ یہ دیکھنا واقعی حیرت انگیز ہے کہ لوگ اب درخت لگانے کے مسئلے سے کافی واقف ہیں اور وہ اس سلسلے میں اپنا کردار ادا کرنا چاہتے ہیں۔

ایک مقامی انجینئر شاہد عباس نے کہا کہ مجھے سوشل میڈیا کے ذریعے آزادی کے درخت لگانے کی مہم کے بارے میں معلوم ہوا۔ پھر میں نے مقامی حکام سے رابطہ کیا اور ان سے درخت لگانے کی میری خواہش کے بارے میں پوچھا۔

جب مجھے وقت دیا گیا تو میں اپنے تین بچوں - دو بیٹوں اور ایک بیٹی کے ساتھ قریبی علاقے میں گیا اور چار درخت لگائے۔ یہ ایک بہت اچھا تجربہ تھا اور ہم اسے مستقبل میں بھی جاری رکھیں گے۔
