Asad Umar to inaugurate construction work on Margalla Road

Special Assistant to Prime Minister (SAPM) on Capital Development Authority (CDA) Ali Nawaz Awan, who will also attend the ceremony, told that the construction of the road will start from Thursday.

“The planning minister, who is also the elected MNA from the area, will inaugurate the first package on Thursday,” the SAPM said. The groundbreaking of the project was performed by Prime Minister Imran Khan in April.

SAPM said the road will be constructed in two phases - from Sangjani to D-12 and from the edge of the Constitution Avenue to SatraMeel, Murree Road, bypassing BharaKahu.

Sources said for the time being CDA was not interested in construction from D-12 to Constitution Avenue as it will use Khayaban-i-Iqbal as a link between both of them. The CDA has already awarded a contract to Frontier Works Organization.

“This road will bring a big relief not only to residents of Islamabad but also to other areas,” the SAPM said, adding the road is part of Islamabad’s master plan prepared in 1960, but the successive government ignored it.

“We are going to construct this major road, which will be helpful in reducing traffic burden from other roads, particularly from Srinagar Highway,” he said.

Initially, the 35-km-long Margalla Road, starting from G.T. Road near Sangjani, was to culminate at BharaKahu but now the CDA has decided that it will bypass Bhara Kau and link with Murree Road near SatraMeel.

ایس اے پی ایم نے کہا ، "وزیر منصوبہ بندی ، جو علاقے سے منتخب ایم این اے بھی ہیں ، جمعرات کو پہلے پیکیج کا افتتاح کریں گے۔" اس منصوبے کا سنگ بنیاد وزیر اعظم عمران خان نے اپریل میں انجام دیا تھا۔

ایس اے پی ایم نے بتایا کہ سڑک دو مراحل میں تعمیر کی جائے گی۔ سنگجانی سے ڈی -12 اور آئین ایونیو کے کنارے سے سترا میل ، مری روڈ تک ، بارہ کہو کو نظر انداز کرتے ہوئے۔

ذرائع نے بتایا کہ اس وقت کے لئے سی ڈی اے کو ڈی 12 سے کانسٹیبلشن ایونیو تک تعمیر میں دلچسپی نہیں تھی کیونکہ وہ خیابانِ اقبال کو ان دونوں کے مابین ایک ربط کے طور پر استعمال کرے گی۔ سی ڈی اے فرنٹیئر ورکس آرگنائزیشن کو پہلے ہی معاہدہ دے چکا ہے۔

ایس اے پی ایم نے کہا ، یہ سڑک نہ صرف اسلام آباد کے رہائشیوں بلکہ دیگر علاقوں میں بھی بڑی ریلیف لائے گی ،" انہوں نے مزید کہا ، یہ سڑک 1960 میں تیار کردہ اسلام آباد کے ماسٹر پلان کا حصہ ہے ، لیکن یکے بعد دیگرے حکومت نے اسے نظرانداز کردیا۔

انہوں نے کہا ، "ہم یہ بڑی سڑک تعمیر کرنے جارہے ہیں ، جو دیگر سڑکوں خصوصا سرینگر ہائی وے سے ٹریفک کے بوجھ کو کم کرنے میں مددگار ثابت ہوگی۔

ابتدائی طور پر ، 35 کلومیٹر طویل مارگلہ روڈ ، جی ٹی سے شروع ہوتا ہے۔ سنگجانی کے قریب روڈ ، بارہ کہو پر اختتام پذیر تھی لیکن اب سترا میل کے قریب مری روڈ سے منسلک ہوگی۔
