Architectural Heritage Of Karachi At Risk Due To Unauthorized Demolition

The reason for this was reported to be a low amount of staff available at the involved sectors, which included directorate general of antiquities, archaeology, archives, culture and tourism department and also because of a lack of interest from the Sindh building control authority.

There are only 10 staffers available in Karachi assigned to keep a check on the unauthorized demolition of the 1,750 protected buildings which is mainly caused by influential owners and builders. The highly dilapidated buildings had received only Rs15 million funds for their protection and preservation.

However negative responses were received by the owners of the private buildings when asked about the renovation work to be performed. Most of them reached out to higher authorities such as the Sindh High Court, through constitutional petitions against the decision to renovate the historical buildings.

کراچی میں صرف 10 عملے دستیاب ہیں جو 1750 محفوظ عمارتوں کے غیر مجاز انہدام پر نظر رکھنے کے لئے تفویض کیے گئے ہیں جو بنیادی طور پر بااثر مالکان اور بلڈرز کی وجہ سے ہوتے ہیں۔ انتہائی خستہ حال عمارتوں کو ان کے تحفظ اور تحفظ کے لئے صرف ١٥ ملین روپے کے فنڈز ملے تھے۔
تاہم نجی عمارتوں کے مالکان کو تزئین و آرائش کے کام کے بارے میں پوچھے جانے پر منفی جوابات موصول ہوئے۔ ان میں سے بیشتر تاریخی عمارتوں کی تزئین و آرائش کے فیصلے کے خلاف آئینی درخواستوں کے ذریعے سندھ ہائی کورٹ جیسے اعلیٰ حکام تک پہنچے۔
