8000 kanals land being acquired for Balakot power project

The district administration has started the process of acquiring over 8000 kanals of land for the construction of the 300 megawatts Balakot Hydropower project in the district.

“We have been acquiring land for this energy project which is being executed by the Pakhtunkhwa Energy Development Organisation at Kunhar River in the Kaghan valley,” Dr. Qasim Ali Khan, told our sources.  

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government had given the go-ahead to the Pakhtunkhwa Energy Development Organization (Pedo) for the execution of the Balakot energy project in March this year after the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (Ecnec) approved $750 million for it.

The deputy commissioner, who is also the district collector, said that following the imposition of section-4 of the land acquisition Act 1894, other formalities were being completed to pay the payments to owners.

“We have been acquiring land in Bala Schain, Paras, Ghanool, and Sangar patwar circles and the district revenue department teams are actively pursuing the task in their respective areas,” Dr. Qasim said.

The bidding and contractors’ hiring process for the construction of the project has already been completed and for this purpose, a consortium of companies is also finalized.

The Pedo would execute the Balakot hydropower project at Kunhar River downstream where 880 megawatts Suki Kinari Hydropower project was rapidly nearing its completion.

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has been executing that major energy project in the province with the financial support of the Asian Development Bank.

ضلعی انتظامیہ نے ضلع میں 300 میگاواٹ بالاکوٹ ہائیڈرو پاور پراجیکٹ کی تعمیر کے لیے 8000 کنال سے زائد اراضی کے حصول کا عمل شروع کر دیا ہے۔

ڈاکٹر قاسم علی خان نے ہمارے ذرائع کو بتایا ، "ہم اس انرجی پروجیکٹ کے لیے زمین حاصل کر رہے ہیں جو کہ پختون انرجی ڈویلپمنٹ آرگنائزیشن کی جانب سے وادی کاغان میں دریائے کنہار پر عمل میں لایا جا رہا ہے۔"

خیبر پختونخوا حکومت نے قومی اقتصادی کونسل (ایکنک) کی ایگزیکٹو کمیٹی کی جانب سے 750 ملین ڈالر کی منظوری کے بعد اس سال مارچ میں بالاکوٹ انرجی پراجیکٹ پر عملدرآمد کے لیے پختونخوا انرجی ڈویلپمنٹ آرگنائزیشن (پیڈو) کو اجازت دی تھی۔

ڈپٹی کمشنر ، جو ضلع کلکٹر بھی ہیں ، نے کہا کہ اراضی کے حصول ایکٹ 1894 کے سیکشن 4 کے نفاذ کے بعد ، مالکان کو ادائیگیوں کی ادائیگی کے لیے دیگر رسمی کام مکمل کیے جا رہے ہیں۔

ڈاکٹر قاسم نے کہا ، "ہم بالا چین ، پارس ، غنول اور سنگر پٹوار حلقوں میں زمین حاصل کر رہے ہیں اور ضلعی ریونیو ڈیپارٹمنٹ کی ٹیمیں اپنے اپنے علاقوں میں سرگرمی سے کام کر رہی ہیں۔"

منصوبے کی تعمیر کے لیے بولی اور ٹھیکیداروں کی خدمات حاصل کرنے کا عمل پہلے ہی مکمل ہوچکا ہے اور اس مقصد کے لیے کمپنیوں کے کنسورشیم کو بھی حتمی شکل دی گئی ہے۔

پیڈو دریائے کنہار میں بالاکوٹ ہائیڈرو پاور پراجیکٹ پر عملدرآمد کرے گا جہاں 880 میگاواٹ کا سوکی کناری ہائیڈرو پاور منصوبہ تیزی سے مکمل ہونے کے قریب تھا۔

خیبر پختونخوا حکومت ایشیائی ترقیاتی بینک کے مالی تعاون سے صوبے میں توانائی کے اس بڑے منصوبے پر عملدرآمد کر رہی ہے۔
