Gwadar: After a new hike in the petrol prices, a proposal has been presented by the government to install a 50 MW IPP’s plant in Gwadar, reported a news source.
This meeting is likely to be held in the federal capital soon, between the Chinese companies in Gwadar and the government. The shortage of electricity within Gwadar was listed as the utmost priority among other challenges to be pondered during the course of the Gwadar Centric meeting.
The long-term plans include the construction and installation of IPPs since the Chinese companies have been overstressed by the overpriced production through the 8.5MW generators in the Gwadar Free Zone. Added to that, with the skyrocketing price of petrol, the cost of electricity has also gone up the roof. This is why the Chinese IPPs have been introduced due to their ability to provide a much more affordable and sustainable option.
Around 51 companies have been established in the Gwadar Free Zone, and many more plan to shift their operations to Pakistan, however the lack of power available makes that difficult.
