44% increase in house rent allowance of government employees approved

The federal cabinet approved a 44 per cent increase in the house rent allowance ceiling of government employees in view of high rents of residences in major cities, especially Islamabad.

It also decided to remove legislators from parliamentary committees who have any conflict of interest with the panels. The meeting, which was presided over by Prime Minister Imran Khan, was informed that Pakistan had almost become a polio-free country as only a single case of the crippling disease was reported in the last seven months.

“The initiative has been taken after reviewing the increase in house rents in major cities,” Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry said during his post-cabinet meeting press conference. “This practice will be repeated every three years,” he said, adding that the increase would be applicable to federal government employees from grades 1 to 22.

The minister said the cabinet had shown concern over giving membership of parliamentary committees to those senators and MNAs who had any conflict of interest with the bodies.

Mr. Chaudhry said the National Assembly speaker and the Senate chairman would be requested to ask those members to tender resignations or else legislation would be made to remove them from the committees.

 He expressed the hope that the members having a conflict of interest in some parliamentary bodies would resign themselves.

The information minister said the cabinet accorded its approval to include Uzbekistan in the business visa list.

وفاقی کابینہ نے بڑے شہروں بالخصوص اسلام آباد میں رہائشی مکانات کے زیادہ کرائے کے پیش نظر سرکاری ملازمین کے ہاؤس رینٹ الاؤنس کی حد میں 44 فیصد اضافے کی منظوری دی۔

اس نے پارلیمانی کمیٹیوں سے ان اراکین اسمبلی کو بھی ہٹانے کا فیصلہ کیا ہے جن کے پینل کے ساتھ مفادات کا کوئی تنازعہ ہے۔ وزیر اعظم عمران خان کی زیر صدارت ہونے والے اجلاس میں بتایا گیا کہ پاکستان تقریبا پولیو سے پاک ملک بن چکا ہے کیونکہ پچھلے سات مہینوں میں اپاہج بیماری کا صرف ایک کیس رپورٹ ہوا ہے۔

وزیر اطلاعات فواد چوہدری نے کابینہ کے بعد اپنی پریس کانفرنس کے دوران کہا ، "بڑے شہروں میں گھروں کے کرایوں میں اضافے کا جائزہ لینے کے بعد یہ اقدام کیا گیا ہے۔" انہوں نے کہا کہ یہ عمل ہر تین سال بعد دہرایا جائے گا۔

وزیر نے کہا کہ کابینہ نے ان سینیٹرز اور ایم این ایز کو پارلیمانی کمیٹیوں کی رکنیت دینے پر تشویش ظاہر کی ہے جن کا اداروں کے ساتھ مفادات کا کوئی تنازعہ ہے۔

مسٹر چوہدری نے کہا کہ قومی اسمبلی کے اسپیکر اور چیئرمین سینیٹ سے درخواست کی جائے گی کہ وہ ان ممبران سے استعفے طلب کریں ورنہ انہیں کمیٹیوں سے نکالنے کے لیے قانون سازی کی جائے گی۔

انہوں نے اس امید کا اظہار کیا کہ کچھ پارلیمانی اداروں میں مفادات کا ٹکراؤ رکھنے والے ارکان خود استعفیٰ دے دیں گے۔

وزیر اطلاعات نے کہا کہ کابینہ نے ازبکستان کو بزنس ویزا لسٹ میں شامل کرنے کی منظوری دے دی۔
