Tree plantation helps in improving women’s economy

A tree plantation campaign initiated under the Ten Billion Tree Tsunami project in Hingol National Park has helped improve the socio-economic conditions of 2,000 female green workers.

According to the details provided by the climate change ministry, Prime Minister Imran Khan had directed the ministry to also provide green jobs to women that could also play an effective role in tree plantation campaigns all over the country.

An official said “As a pilot project we coordinated with local non-government organizations and talked to the local communities for the hiring of women as green workers. Some 2,000 women came up and vowed to work for the success of the tree plantation campaign. These women planted 30,000 juniper trees and became ‘neghaibans’ to ensure their safety and protection against all odds,” he said.

The official said, “These women diligently perform their duties and never allow goats, camels, and other animals to enter into the area where juniper trees have been planted.” He said: “As part of the project these women have been provided with sewing machines and financial support and now all of them stitch clothes and earn a livelihood.”

The official said, “The green jobs are not only helping in increasing tree cover but also improving socio-economic conditions of the local communities.”

He said that the Juniper forest in Balochistan is considered ‘Living Fossils’ and is the second-largest forest in the world and one of the oldest slow-growing Juniper trees in the world.

ہنگول نیشنل پارک میں دس بلین ٹری سونامی پروجیکٹ کے تحت شروع کی گئی درخت لگانے کی مہم نے 2،000 خواتین گرین ورکرز کے سماجی و اقتصادی حالات کو بہتر بنانے میں مدد کی ہے۔

موسمیاتی تبدیلی کی وزارت کی جانب سے فراہم کردہ تفصیلات کے مطابق ، وزیر اعظم عمران خان نے وزارت کو ہدایت کی تھی کہ وہ خواتین کو سبز ملازمتیں بھی فراہم کرے جو کہ پورے ملک میں درخت لگانے کی مہموں میں موثر کردار ادا کر سکتی ہیں۔

ایک عہدیدار نے کہا کہ "ایک پائلٹ پروجیکٹ کے طور پر ہم نے مقامی غیر سرکاری تنظیموں کے ساتھ ہم آہنگی کی اور مقامی برادریوں سے بات کی کہ وہ خواتین کو سبز کارکنوں کی خدمات حاصل کریں۔ تقریبا 2،000 خواتین نے آکر درخت لگانے کی مہم کی کامیابی کے لیے کام کرنے کا عزم ظاہر کیا۔ ان خواتین نے 30 ہزار جونیپر کے درخت لگائے اور ہر قسم کی مشکلات سے اپنی حفاظت اور تحفظ کو یقینی بنانے کے لیے 'نیگھیبان' بن گئیں۔

عہدیدار نے کہا کہ "یہ خواتین تندہی سے اپنے فرائض سرانجام دیتی ہیں اور کبھی بھی بکروں ، اونٹوں اور دیگر جانوروں کو اس علاقے میں داخل نہیں ہونے دیتی جہاں جنیپر کے درخت لگائے گئے ہیں۔" انہوں نے کہا: "منصوبے کے ایک حصے کے طور پر ان خواتین کو سلائی مشینیں اور مالی مدد فراہم کی گئی ہے اور اب یہ سب کپڑے سلائی کرتی ہیں اور روزی کماتی ہیں۔"

عہدیدار نے کہا کہ "سبز نوکریاں نہ صرف درختوں کے احاطے کو بڑھانے میں مدد دے رہی ہیں بلکہ مقامی کمیونٹیز کی سماجی و اقتصادی حالت کو بھی بہتر بنا رہی ہیں۔"

انہوں نے کہا کہ بلوچستان میں جونیپر جنگل کو 'زندہ فوسلز' سمجھا جاتا ہے اور یہ دنیا کا دوسرا بڑا جنگل ہے اور دنیا میں سب سے قدیم سست اگنے والے جنیپر کے درختوں میں سے ایک ہے۔
