Tourism to be promoted in City of Saints: Minister Akhtar Malik

Provincial Minister for Energy Dr. Akhtar Malik said that Multan will be made attractive for drawing tourists' attention from across the world as it is the hub of trade, politics, and the centuries-old, rich historical culture of South Punjab.

Chairing a meeting at South Punjab Secretariat on Thursday he said that devotees from all over the world flock to Multan to visit the shrines of saints.

Minister for Culture Khayal Ahmed Castro and Additional Chief Secretary South Punjab Capt. R Saqib Zafar, Chairman Walled City Project Muhammad Nadeem Qureshi, MPA Javed Akhtar Ansari, Commissioner Dr. Irshad Ahmed, Deputy Commissioner Amir Karim Khan, DG PHA, and officers of Metropolitan Corporation attended the meeting while Prof. Sajida Haider Windal gave a briefing on the plan regarding Qasim Fort.

Addressing the meeting Additional Chief Secretary South Punjab, Saqib Zafar, informed that a focal person would be appointed and a committee be formed to stop unnecessary constructions at the Fort.

Without the approval of the focal person, no development activities will be carried out, he added. The ACS stated that Rs.19 million were being spent on the restoration of shrines of Hazrat Bahauddin Zakaria and Hazrat Shah Rukn-i-Alam under the supervision of the Auqaf Department, from Nov 1.

Mr. Zafar said that PHA was spending Rs.30 million on the beautification and landscaping of the Fort adding that it would be declared as a buffer zone to prevent unnecessary constructions.

Punjab Minister for Culture, Khayal Ahmed Castro, said that the government was implementing a comprehensive plan for the protection of historical heritage in the province and practical steps are being taken for the promotion of tourism in line with the vision of the Prime Minister.

Chairman Walled City Project MPA Nadeem Qureshi said that Haram Gate, Sarafa Bazar, and Musafir Khana have been restored to their original condition.

Commissioner Multan Division Dr. Irshad Ahmed said that the beauty of the Qasim Fort is one of the priorities of the administration.

صوبائی وزیر توانائی ڈاکٹر اختر ملک نے کہا کہ ملتان کو دنیا بھر کے سیاحوں کی توجہ مبذول کرانے کے لیے پرکشش بنایا جائے گا کیونکہ یہ جنوبی پنجاب کی تجارت، سیاست اور صدیوں پرانی تاریخی ثقافت کا گڑھ ہے۔

جمعرات کو جنوبی پنجاب سیکرٹریٹ میں ایک اجلاس کی صدارت کرتے ہوئے انہوں نے کہا کہ دنیا بھر سے عقیدت مند اولیاء کرام کے مزارات پر حاضری کے لیے ملتان آتے ہیں۔

اس موقع پر وزیر ثقافت خیال احمد کاسترو اور ایڈیشنل چیف سیکرٹری جنوبی پنجاب کیپٹن ر ثاقب ظفر، چیئرمین والڈ سٹی پراجیکٹ محمد ندیم قریشی، ایم پی اے جاوید اختر انصاری، کمشنر ڈاکٹر ارشاد احمد، ڈپٹی کمشنر امیر کریم خان، ڈی جی پی ایچ اے اور میٹروپولیٹن کارپوریشن کے افسران نے شرکت کی۔ اجلاس میں شرکت کی جبکہ پروفیسر ساجدہ حیدر ونڈل نے قلعہ قاسم کے حوالے سے پلان پر بریفنگ دی۔

اجلاس سے خطاب کرتے ہوئے ایڈیشنل چیف سیکرٹری جنوبی پنجاب ثاقب ظفر نے بتایا کہ قلعہ میں غیر ضروری تعمیرات کو روکنے کے لیے فوکل پرسن مقرر کیا جائے گا اور کمیٹی بنائی جائے گی۔

انہوں نے مزید کہا کہ فوکل پرسن کی منظوری کے بغیر کوئی ترقیاتی کام نہیں کیا جائے گا۔ اے سی ایس نے بتایا کہ یکم نومبر سے محکمہ اوقاف کی زیر نگرانی حضرت بہاء الدین زکریا اور حضرت شاہ رکن عالم کے مزارات کی بحالی پر 19 ملین روپے خرچ کیے جا رہے ہیں۔

مسٹر ظفر نے کہا کہ پی ایچ اے فورٹ کی خوبصورتی اور لینڈ سکیپنگ پر 30 ملین روپے خرچ کر رہا ہے اور مزید کہا کہ غیر ضروری تعمیرات کو روکنے کے لیے اسے بفر زون قرار دیا جائے گا۔

پنجاب کے وزیر ثقافت خیال احمد کاسترو نے کہا کہ حکومت صوبے میں تاریخی ورثے کے تحفظ کے لیے جامع منصوبہ بندی پر عمل پیرا ہے اور وزیر اعظم کے ویژن کے مطابق سیاحت کے فروغ کے لیے عملی اقدامات کیے جا رہے ہیں۔
چیئرمین والڈ سٹی پراجیکٹ ایم پی اے ندیم قریشی نے کہا کہ حرم گیٹ، صرافہ بازار اور مسافر خانہ کو اصل حالت میں بحال کر دیا گیا ہے۔

کمشنر ملتان ڈویژن ڈاکٹر ارشاد احمد نے کہا کہ قلعہ قاسم کی خوبصورتی انتظامیہ کی ترجیحات میں شامل ہے۔
