Peshawar: Swat Motorway project is going to be extended from Chakdara till Mingora, declared by Mahmood Khan, the Chief Minister (CM) of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
During a meeting being held in Peshawar, the CM expressed his views in this regard. Chief of Strategic Support Unit, Minister for Communications Akbar Ayub, the Secretary for Communications and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Highways Managing Director (MD) were also present in this meeting.
He concerned officials were all directed to forward a brief summary that must be containing a proposal to the Federal Government of Pakistan. The CM, Mahmood Khan also suggested the completion of the motorway project with prime collaboration with the NHA (National Highway Authority).
Last year in December, the Motorway Police has already opened the Swat Motorway’s Katlang and Colonel Shen Khan Interchanges for the better flow of the traffic. It is reported that this project is being completed with PKR 41 billion. The construction was already going on from April 2017 with collaboration with Frontier Works Organization (FWO). There are currently two projects of Swat running by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Government, which are considered to be the flagship projects of the area. One is Swat Motorway project whereas the other one is Peshawar Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project.
It was decided that Swat Motorway’s section that will be linking Swabi and Mardan through Katlang and Colonel Shen Khan Interchanges will be opening for the traffic from May, but due to many unseen reasons, the project opening got delayed and finally at the beginning of December, a portion of Swat Motorway got opened for the public.
The second portion of Swat Motorway extension is going to be completed at a cost of more than PKR 30 billion. As per the news, the new road link would be 41 kilometers long. The road will comprise of two interchanges, 43 culverts, three bridges and 27 underpasses.
