Karachi: According to the news sources, the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) has declared over 400 buildings in Karachi “dangerous” for living.
The Technical Committee on Dangerous Buildings of SBCA has prepared a report, which indicates that there are at least 422 dangerous buildings in the city. Out of these 422 buildings, 273 are in Saddar Town alone.
The report further states that there are 49 such buildings in Lyari, 46 in Liaquatabad, 10 in Gulberg, nine in Jamshed Town, eight in Gulshan Town, six in Malir, four each in Keamari and North Nazimabad, and three each in Baldia Town and Shah Faisal Town.
According to the SBCA officials, they have issued evacuation notices to owners of these buildings. However, people have not yet vacated them because of no alternative places to live. This report by SBCA came two days after a multi-story building collapsed in Lyari. The area residents and witnesses said that the building was trembling minutes before it collapsed and killed at least 13 people.
The June 7 case of building collapse was the third such incident in the city since December 2019.
