Privatization Commission auctions Lahore hotel for Rs1.951bn

The Privatization Commission on 27^th August 2021 auctioned the Services International Hotel in Lahore at the highest bid of Rs1.951 billion against the reserved price of Rs1.949bn with the small difference between the two prices raising some eyebrows.

Only two bidders participated in the auction and a renowned real estate developer of Lahore, Faisal Town Pvt Ltd, emerged successful, according to an official announcement.

Federal Minister for Privatization Mohammadmian Soomro, who chaired the process, termed the auction success of the Privatization Commission and said the government believed in merit and transparency in the auction of state-owned properties.

He said that the auction had fetched more than the base price, adding that the main purpose of the auction was to reduce the burden of debt retirement on the country. Sources in the Privatization Commission explained that the reserved price was fixed following market valuation as the Services International Hotel was not functional.

He said the government had to face some financial problems due to Covid-19, but now the country was on the road to progress and exports were increasing.

He said the process of privatization of Balloki and Bahadur Shah power plants was delayed due to Covid-19 because the international investors wanted to visit the plants physically, which was not possible owing to the travel advisory restrictions, but now the matter was on track again and the transaction would be completed within the prescribed time.

About the privatization of Pakistan Steel Mills, Mr. Soomro said that the expression of interest from investors would be invited soon.

نجکاری کمیشن نے 27 اگست 2021 کو لاہور میں سروسز انٹرنیشنل ہوٹل کو نیلام کیا جس کی سب سے زیا��ہ بولی 1.951 بلین روپے تھی جس کی ریزرو قیمت 1.4949 ارب روپے تھی اور دونوں قیمتوں کے درمیان چھوٹے فرق نے کچھ ابرو اٹھائے۔

سرکاری اعلان کے مطابق صرف دو بولی دہندگان نے نیلامی میں حصہ لیا اور لاہور کے مشہور رئیل اسٹیٹ ڈویلپر فیصل ٹاؤن پرائیویٹ لمیٹڈ کامیاب نکلے۔

وفاقی وزیر برائے نجکاری محمدمیاں سومرو ، جنہوں نے اس عمل کی صدارت کی ، نے نیلامی کو نجکاری کمیشن کی کامیابی قرار دیا اور کہا کہ حکومت سرکاری ملکیتوں کی نیلامی میں میرٹ اور شفافیت پر یقین رکھتی ہے۔

انہوں نے کہا کہ نیلامی کو بنیادی قیمت سے زیادہ حاصل ہوا ہے ، انہوں نے مزید کہا کہ نیلامی کا بنیادی مقصد ملک پر قرض کی ادائیگی کے بوجھ کو کم کرنا تھا۔ پرائیویٹائزیشن کمیشن کے ذرائع نے وضاحت کی کہ مارکیٹ کی قیمت کے بعد مخصوص قیمت مقرر کی گئی تھی کیونکہ سروسز انٹرنیشنل ہوٹل کام نہیں کر رہا تھا۔

انہوں نے کہا کہ کوویڈ 19 کی وجہ سے حکومت کو کچھ مالی مسائل کا سامنا کرنا پڑا ، لیکن اب ملک ترقی کی راہ پر گامزن ہے اور برآمدات بڑھ رہی ہیں۔

انہوں نے کہا کہ بلوکی اور بہادر شاہ پاور پلانٹس کی نجکاری کا عمل کوویڈ 19 کی وجہ سے تاخیر کا شکار ہوا کیونکہ بین الاقوامی سرمایہ کار جسمانی طور پر پودوں کا دورہ کرنا چاہتے تھے ، جو کہ سفری مشاورتی پابندیوں کی وجہ سے ممکن نہیں تھا ، لیکن اب معاملہ دوبارہ ٹریک پر ہے اور ٹرانزیکشن مقررہ وقت میں مکمل کی جائے گی۔

پاکستان اسٹیل ملز کی نجکاری کے بارے میں ، مسٹر سومرو نے کہا کہ سرمایہ کاروں سے دلچسپی کے اظہار کو جلد مدعو کیا جائے گا۔
