Pakistan, China vow to tap potential of Gwadar port, free zone

Pakistani and Chinese officials held meetings of the two Joint Working Groups on Gwadar and Socio-Economic Development through video conferencing equipment, said a press release issued by the planning ministry.

According to the news sources, one of the meetings underlined the need for finalizing the Marketing and Investment Plan for Free Zone along with its implementation strategy. The meeting was informed that the plan would soon be submitted for consideration to the Cabinet Committee on China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

The sixth session of the Joint Working Group on Gwadar was co-chaired by the secretary for planning, development, and special initiatives Abdul Aziz Uqaili and Ying Xiong, the director-general of the National Development and Reforms Commission of China.

According to the news sources, both sides expressed satisfaction over stable progress made on various projects, The meeting noted that the project called Gwadar Free Zone Phase-1 had been successfully completed, while work on the bigger Phase-II, covering an area of 2,221 acres, had been started.

وزارت منصوبہ بندی کی طرف سے جاری کردہ ایک پریس ریلیز میں کہا گیا ہے کہ پاکستانی اور چینی حکام نے ویڈیو کانفرنسنگ آلات کے ذریعے گوادر اور سماجی و اقتصادی ترقی پر دو مشترکہ ورکنگ گروپس کی میٹنگیں کیں۔
نیوز ذرائع کے مطابق ایک میٹنگ میں فری زون کے لیے مارکیٹنگ اور سرمایہ کاری کے منصوبے کو حتمی شکل دینے کے ساتھ ساتھ اس پر عمل درآمد کی حکمت عملی پر بھی زور دیا گیا۔ اجلاس کو بتایا گیا کہ منصوبہ جلد ہی کابینہ کمیٹی برائے چین پاکستان اقتصادی راہداری (سی پیک) کو غور کے لیے پیش کیا جائے گا۔
گوادر پر مشترکہ ورکنگ گروپ کے چھٹے اجلاس کی مشترکہ صدارت سیکرٹری برائے منصوبہ بندی، ترقی اور خصوصی اقدامات عبدالعزیز عقیلی اور چین کے نیشنل ڈویلپمنٹ اینڈ ریفارمز کمیشن کے ڈائریکٹر جنرل ینگ ژیانگ نے کی۔
نیوز ذرائع کے مطابق دونوں جانب سے مختلف منصوبوں پر مستحکم پیش رفت پر اطمینان کا اظہار کیا گیا، ملاقات میں بتایا گیا کہ گوادر فری زون فیز ون نامی منصوبہ کامیابی سے مکمل کیا گیا ہے جبکہ بڑے فیز ٹو پر کامشروع کیا گیاہے۔ 2221 ایکڑ رقبے پر محیط ہے۔.
