Govt Fast Tracking Work on WB Funded Projects: Asad Umar

Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Asad Umar, while appreciating the contribution of the World Bank in the socio-economic development of Pakistan, said that the incumbent government was committed to fast-track the various projects being funded by World Bank.

A World Bank delegation, led by South Asia Regional Director for Infrastructure Guangzhe Chen, called on Minister for Planning Asad Umar here on Tuesday. Secretary Planning Hamed Yaqoob Sheikh and senior officials attended the meeting.

During the meeting, various infrastructure, energy, clean drinking water, drainage, education, health-related projects being funded by the World Bank came under discussion.

Referring to the K4 project, the Minister said that the provision of clean drinking water and upgrading the drainage system of Karachi were among the top priorities of the Government.

The minister informed the delegation that due to effective measures taken by the government, the growth in circular debt was being curtailed by a considerable amount. He assured that the government was keen to reform the power sector in the country with a special focus on reducing circular debt.

He reiterated that the government was fully committed to implementing structural reforms, protecting social spending, and boosting social safety nets in order to protect the vulnerable segments of society.

He further underscored the importance of World Bank assistance for the expansion and modernization of Pakistan’s electricity transmission system.

Speaking on the occasion, Guangzhe Chen commended Pakistan’s efforts, greatly valued its partnership, and supported the energy reform agenda of the present government including circular debt management and Indicative Generation Capacity Expansion Plan.

Stressing the importance of road connectivity for rural development, the planning minister emphasized that effective road networks promote access to social services such as health facilities and education.

During the meeting, they also discussed the girl’s education ratio in KP and the facilities provided to them.

اسلام آباد: اسد عمر کا کہنا ہے کہ موجودہ حکومت ورلڈ بینک کی جانب سے فنڈنگ کیے جانے والے مختلف منصوبوں کو تیزی سے آگے بڑھانے کے لیے پرعزم ہے۔

منصوبہ بندی، ترقی اور خصوصی اقدامات کے وزیر اسد عمر نے پاکستان کی سماجی و اقتصادی ترقی میں عالمی بینک کے تعاون کو سراہتے ہوئے کہا کہ موجودہ حکومت ورلڈ بینک کی جانب سے فنڈز فراہم کرنے والے مختلف منصوبوں کو تیزی سے آگے بڑھانے کے لیے پرعزم ہے۔

منگل کو وزیر منصوبہ بندی اسد عمر سے عالمی بینک کے وفد نے جنوبی ایشیا کے ریجنل ڈائریکٹر برائے انفراسٹرکچر گوانگزی چن کی قیادت میں ملاقات کی۔ اجلاس میں سیکرٹری پلاننگ حامد یعقوب شیخ اور اعلیٰ حکام نے شرکت کی۔

ملاقات کے دوران مختلف انفراسٹرکچر، توانائی، پینے کے صاف پانی، نکاسی آب، تعلیم، صحت سے متعلق منصوبوں پر بات چیت کی گئی جو ورلڈ بنک کی مالی معاونت سے چل رہے ہیں۔

کے فور منصوبے کا ذکر کرتے ہوئے وزیر نے کہا کہ پینے کے صاف پانی کی فراہمی اور کراچی کے نکاسی آب کے نظام کو اپ گریڈ کرنا حکومت کی اولین ترجیحات میں شامل ہیں۔

وزیر نے وفد کو بتایا کہ حکومت کے موثر اقدامات کی وجہ سے گردشی قرضے میں کافی حد تک کمی واقع ہوئی ہے۔ انہوں نے یقین دلایا کہ حکومت سرکلر ڈیٹ کو کم کرنے پر خصوصی توجہ دیتے ہوئے ملک میں پاور سیکٹر میں اصلاحات کی خواہشمند ہے۔

انہوں نے اس بات کا اعادہ کیا کہ حکومت معاشرے کے کمزور طبقات کی حفاظت کے لیے ڈھانچہ جاتی اصلاحات، سماجی اخراجات کے تحفظ اور سماجی تحفظ کے نیٹ ورک کو فروغ دینے کے لیے پوری طرح پرعزم ہے۔

انہوں نے پاکستان کے بجلی کی ترسیل کے نظام کی توسیع اور جدید کاری کے لیے عالمی بینک کی امداد کی اہمیت پر مزید زور دیا۔

اس موقع پر خطاب کرتے ہوئے گوانگ ژے چن نے پاکستان کی کوششوں کو سراہا، اس کی شراکت داری کو بہت قدر کی نگاہ سے دیکھا اور موجودہ حکومت کے توانائی اصلاحات کے ایجنڈے کی حمایت کی جس میں گردشی قرضوں کے انتظام اور انڈیکیٹیو جنریشن کیپیسٹی ایکسپینشن پلان شامل ہیں۔

دیہی ترقی کے لیے سڑک کے رابطے کی اہمیت پر زور دیتے ہوئے، منصوبہ بندی کے وزیر نے اس بات پر زور دیا کہ موثر روڈ نیٹ ورک صحت کی سہولیات اور تعلیم جیسی سماجی خدمات تک رسائی کو فروغ دیتے ہیں۔

ملاقات کے دوران انہوں نے کے پی میں لڑکیوں کی تعلیم کے تناسب اور انہیں فراہم کی جانے والی سہولیات پر بھی تبادلہ خیال کیا۔۔
