CDA to acquire drones to monitor wildlife, forests

As a pilot project, the CDA has floated a tender to purchase a drone camera with the latest equipment at a cost of Rs6.8 million for the Model Forestry Park, Malpur.

According to the press release issued by CDA on Sunday. “The use of drones will enable detection of encroachments in the forest area which will benefit in taking timely action against the encroachers.

Similarly, the camera will also help in determining the types of wildlife found in the forests of Islamabad while also helping in determining the migratory wildlife,”

It said the technology could be used for other measures, including preventing illegal logging. Other problems, including forest fires, could also be identified and addressed on time.

According to the news sources, The Model Forestry Park is being developed under the supervision of director environment protection cell Rana Tahir Mahmood, who has been making efforts for acquiring the drone technology for the park.

They said the park was being developed on 350 acres and so far, 50,000 trees have been planted while on January 13 the CDA will float a new tender for purchasing 50,000 more trees (cheer pine, amaltas, and kachnar) which will be planted in the spring season.

While talking to the media, a CDA official said the civic agency was also planning to get over 100 close circuit television cameras for installation in the park for the security of plants and visitors.

اتوار کو سی ڈی اے کی طرف سے جاری پریس ریلیز کے مطابق۔ ڈرون کے استعمال سے جنگلاتی علاقے میں تجاوزات کا پتہ چل سکے گا جس سے تجاوزات کے خلاف بروقت کارروائی کرنے میں فائدہ ہوگا۔
اسی طرح یہ کیمرہ اسلام آباد کے جنگلات میں پائی جانے والی جنگلی حیات کی اقسام کا تعین کرنے میں بھی مدد کرے گا جبکہ نقل مکانی کرنے والے جنگلی حیات کا تعین کرنے میں بھی مدد کرے گا۔
اس نے کہا کہ ٹیکنالوجی کو دیگر اقدامات کے لیے استعمال کیا جا سکتا ہے، بشمول غیر قانونی لاگنگ کو روکنے کے۔ جنگل کی آگ سمیت دیگر مسائل کی بھی نشاندہی کی جا سکتی ہے اور بروقت ان کا تدارک کیا جا سکتا ہے۔
نیوز ذرائع کے مطابق دی ماڈل فاریسٹری پارک کو ڈائریکٹر انوائرمنٹ پروٹیکشن سیل رانا طاہر محمود کی زیرنگرانی تیار کیا جا رہا ہے جو پارک کے لیے ڈرون ٹیکنالوجی کے حصول کے لیے کوششیں کر رہے ہیں۔
انہوں نے بتایا کہ پارک 350 ایکڑ پر تیار کیا جا رہا ہے اور اب تک 50,000 درخت لگائے جا چکے ہیں جبکہ 13 جنوری کو سی ڈی اے مزید 50,000 درختوں (چیر پائن، املتاس اور کچنار) کی خریداری کے لیے نیا ٹینڈر جاری کرے گا جو موسم بہار میں لگائے جائیں گے۔
میڈیا سے بات کرتے ہوئے سی ڈی اے کے اہلکار نے کہا کہ شہری ادارہ پلانٹس اور زائرین کی حفاظت کے لیے پارک میں 100 سے زائد کلوز سرکٹ ٹیلی ویژن کیمرے لگانے کا بھی منصوبہ بنا رہا ہے۔
