Asad Umar says the K-IV project to be completed by 2023

According to the news sources, Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Asad Umar chaired a meeting in Islamabad to review the progress of the mega project, which had recently been taken over by the federal government from the Sindh government.

This meeting was attended by secretary-development Abdul Aziz Uqaili, project director Amir Mughal, and project consultants Dr. Bashir Lakhani and senior officials.

“The project director briefed the minister about the revised PC-1 of the K-IV project, its components, and design details,” said a statement issued after the meeting.

“It was informed in the meeting that Wapda has completed the revised design of 650 MGD K-IV to be executed in phases. All planning, design, and locating activities are as per the project timeline, and the construction of this project will be completed by October 2023,” Asad added.

The federal minister also advised the officials to ensure continuous power supply to operate pumping stations and to supply water to the proposed reservoirs.

The project director informed him that the design of the K-IV project had been developed with a modular approach in which five pumping stations with as many large mild steel pipes of 84 inches each carrying 130 MGD with a total capacity of 650 MGD had been planned to be executed.

The meeting well-versed that Wapda has submitted PC-1 with a modified design of 650 MGD K-IV Project with various options for execution of the project, which can be done in phases.

According to the news sources, Minister expressed satisfaction over the pace of the work on the development of revised planning and design of this project which is in line with the prime minister’s commitment to ensuring water availability to residents of Karachi.

نیوز ذرائع کے مطابق وفاقی وزیر برائے منصوبہ بندی، ترقی اور خصوصی اقدامات اسد عمر کی زیر صدارت اسلام آباد میں اجلاس ہوا جس میں میگا پراجیکٹ پر پیش رفت کا جائزہ لیا گیا، جسے حال ہی میں وفاقی حکومت نے سندھ حکومت سے سنبھالا تھا۔
اجلاس میں سیکرٹری ترقیات عبدالعزیز عقیلی، پراجیکٹ ڈائریکٹر عامر مغل، پراجیکٹ کنسلٹنٹس ڈاکٹر بشیر لاکھانی اور سینئر حکام نے شرکت کی۔
میٹنگ کے بعد جاری ہونے والے ایک بیان میں کہا گیا، "پروجیکٹ ڈائریکٹر نے وزیر کو (کے-4) پروجیکٹ کے نظرثانی شدہ (پی سی-1)، اس کے اجزاء اور ڈیزائن کی تفصیلات سے آگاہ کیا۔"
اجلاس میں بتایا گیا کہ واپڈا نے 650 (ایم جی ڈی) (کے-4) کا نظرثانی شدہ ڈیزائن مکمل کر لیا ہے جس پر مرحلہ وار عمل کیا جائے گا۔ تمام منصوبہ بندی، ڈیزائن، اور لوکیشن کی سرگرمیاں پراجیکٹ کی ٹائم لائن کے مطابق ہیں، اور اس منصوبے کی تعمیر اکتوبر 2023 تک مکمل ہو جائے گی۔" اسد نے مزید کہا۔
وفاقی وزیر نے حکام کو یہ بھی مشورہ دیا کہ وہ پمپنگ اسٹیشنوں کو چلانے اور مجوزہ آبی ذخائر میں پانی کی فراہمی کے لیے مسلسل بجلی کی فراہمی کو یقینی بنائیں۔
پروجیکٹ ڈائریکٹر نے انہیں بتایا کہ K-IV پروجیکٹ کا ڈیزائن ایک ماڈیولر اپروچ کے ساتھ تیار کیا گیا ہے جس میں 84 انچ کے زیادہ سے زیادہ بڑے ہلکے اسٹیل پائپوں کے ساتھ پانچ پمپنگ اسٹیشنوں کی منصوبہ بندی کی گئی ہے جن میں سے ہر ایک 130 ایم جی ڈی لے کر 650 ایم جی ڈی کی کل صلاحیت رکھتا ہے۔
میٹنگ نے اس بات سے بخوبی آگاہ کیا کہ واپڈا نے 650 (ایم جی ڈی) (کے-4) پراجیکٹ کے ترمیم شدہ ڈیزائن کے ساتھ (پی سی-1) پیش کیا ہے جس میں پراجیکٹ پر عملدرآمد کے لیے مختلف آپشنز ہیں، جو کہ مرحلہ وار کیا جا سکتا ہے۔
نیوز ذرائع کے مطابق وزیر نے اس منصوبے کی نظرثانی شدہ منصوبہ بندی اور ڈیزائن کی ترقی پر کام کی رفتار پر اطمینان کا اظہار کیا جو کراچی کے رہائشیوں کو پانی کی دستیابی کو یقینی بنانے کے وزیراعظم کے عزم کے مطابق ہے۔
