7 projects worth $1.44 billion are under the implementation process in Gwadar

The new projects include the Eastbay Expressway, which is 98% complete, and facilities for freshwater treatment, water supply, and distribution which are 70% complete. Other projects include the new Gwadar International Airport, Pak-China Friendship Hospital, the infrastructure of Gwadar Free Zone-II, a 300 MW coal power plant, and a 1.2 million gallons’ desalination plant.

A spokesperson revealed that it was necessary for effective development of communication and positive engagement with local communities is critical to ensure the long-term success of these projects. In the short term, however, currently, the prioritized projects include the provision of water in three months and electricity in five months for Gwadar, and the completion of the M-8 motorway.

The long-term strategy currently is to build the LNG and POL terminals at Gwadar Port and ensure the availability of electricity, water, and, gas to enable phase-2 expansion of the port.
