Punjab Forest Department turns 5,000 kanal land into dense forest

Punjab Forest Department (Extension) Rawalpindi Division has started growing forests by planting trees on thousands of acres of unfertile, and uncultivated privately owned lands under Prime Minister Imran Khan’s Ten Billion Tree Tsunami program.

“Only in Chakwal District of Rawalpindi Division, 5,000 Kanal land has so far been turned into dense forest,” said Sher Afzal Raja, District Range Forest officer of Punjab Forest Department Rawalpindi (Extension).

He was briefing the Adviser to the Chief Minister Punjab Asif Mehmood, and Vice-Chairman Parks and Horticulture Authority Rawalpindi Malik Abid Hussain in a ceremony.

The ceremony was attended by the students of different schools, colleges, members of Rotary Club International, Farmers, and private landowners.

Sher Afzal Raja told that the district office of range forest Chakwal will distribute 0.4 million saplings to the farming community.

He appealed to the farmers to resettle their barren lands through afforestation and announced that the forest department would provide them saplings at the cheapest rate of Rs2 per sapling.

“They would plant these saplings in their barren lands and forest department shall help them grow these saplings in a proper way”, he added saying that millions of these plants will be given to farmers in all districts, and tehsils of the division.

"Along with these practical and immediate steps, we are also raising public awareness to highlight the need and importance of trees for which a massive publicity campaign has been launched," he said.

محکمہ جنگلات پنجاب (توسیعی) راولپنڈی ڈویژن نے وزیر اعظم عمران خان کے دس ارب درخت سونامی پروگرام کے تحت ہزاروں ایکڑ رقبے ، اور غیر کاشت شدہ نجی ملکیت والی اراضی پر درخت لگا کر جنگلات کا اگنا شروع کردیا ہے۔

پنجاب کے محکمہ جنگلات راولپنڈی (توسیعی) کے ضلعی رینج فارسٹ آفیسر شیر افضل راجہ نے بتایا ، "صرف راولپنڈی ڈویژن کے ضلع چکوال میں ، 5000 کنال اراضی کو گھنے جنگل میں تبدیل کردیا گیا ہے۔"

وہ ایک تقریب میں وزیر اعلی پنجاب کے مشیر آصف محمود ، اور وائس چیئرمین پارکس اینڈ ہارٹیکلچر اتھارٹی راولپنڈی ملک عابد حسین کو بریفنگ دے رہے تھے۔

تقریب میں مختلف اسکولوں ، کالجوں کے طلباء ، روٹری کلب انٹرنیشنل کے ممبران ، کسانوں اور نجی اراضی مالکان نے شرکت کی۔
شیر افضل راجہ نے بتایا کہ ضلع دفتر رینج جنگل چکوال کاشتکاری برادری میں 0.4 ملین پودے تقسیم کریں گے۔

انہوں نے کسانوں سے باری باری کے ذریعے اپنی بنجر زمینوں کو دوبارہ آباد کرنے کی اپیل کی ، اور اعلان کیا کہ محکمہ جنگلات ان کو پودے ہر ایک پودے کے 2 روپے سستی نرخ پر فراہم کریں گے۔

"وہ یہ پودوں کو اپنی بنجر زمینوں میں لگائیں گے اور محکمہ جنگلات ان پودوں کو مناسب طریقے سے اگانے میں ان کی مدد کریں گے" ، انہوں نے مزید کہا کہ ان لاکھوں پودوں کو تمام اضلاع اور ڈویژن کے تحصیلوں میں کاشتکاروں کو دیئے جائیں گے۔

انہوں نے کہا ، "ان عملی اور فوری اقدامات کے ساتھ ساتھ ، ہم درختوں کی ضرورت اور اہمیت کو اجاگر کرنے کے لئے بھی عوامی شعور اجاگر کررہے ہیں جس کے لئے بڑے پیمانے پر تشہیر کی مہم چلائی گئی ہے۔"
